i've knit these socks three times and each time when tested for fit they were either too big or too small. For example:

knitted the smaller size on #1's -- too small; knit the larger size on #2's -- too big. now, i going to try the smaller size on #2's. if this doesn't work, i'm giving up.

missed my first snb meeting this week (due to business travel) but, look forward to knitting this sock with you.

enjoy your weekend.

Found you off the KAL - looooooove your Johnny Cash tribute. Fabulous!

I'm with Cara - I'd try the 84 sts on size 1s. That's what I'm doing on my second... er, third... er... on THIS attempt on getting this pattern right. I LOVE knitting it, but making it fit? Gah!

Metal DPNs all the way baby! I don't really have a brand preference as long as they're metal. I usually use size 1s for regular socks. I'm no help at all with the jaywalkers though seeing as I haven't jumped on that bandwagon...yet ;0)

I use one 29" addi (almost always size 1 with number of stitches adjusted for gauge) to do the magic loop method.

I can't comment on the Jaywalker portion of the pattern, but as far as needles, I prefer Pony Pearls, they are plastic with some sort of stuff on the inside, so they're nice and bendy to me. I broke my bamboo needles and those dpns weren't that cheap to keep replacing them, (imo) and I didn't care for the aluminum ones at all. Those are my favorites, but many feel the points aren't sharp enough for picking up stitches, definitely a matter of personal opinion on them. Hope the Jaywalker sizing saga gets fixed for you soon!

I can't answer the poll because it depends on the yarn and the pattern. Lately I've come to realize that my sock tension has probably been too loose, so I've gone down to 1s, and it's usually bamboo. Although I also like metal, in either Inox (though now that I think of it, my Inox needles are 2s - I might need to get some more of these) or the Susan Bates alumninum ones.

I've tried two socks on two circs, and it mostly made me mad. Back to dpns for me, baby.

I use size 1 addis and do the magic loop technique. I made Jaywalkers on size 7s with 76 stitches for me. The leg is snug and the foot is perfect. They are wearable but next time I'm going to try 76 stitches on size 2 needles.

I loves the metal myself. I use a LOOOONG circ, like, 40" and the magic loop mehtod to do both socks at once. I like the Addi's but you have to watch the mm on those. They run bigger than Inox, or Susan Bates, or even Bamboo.
