Scout's Knitted Swag

StrangelittleScout

Is what our freshly, handpainted yarn has now been named. (edited to add a better picture of both yarns) Click the pretty yarn to see a few of the pictures we took. Not too bad for our first attempt is it?

both

What a fun but stressful experience. We’ve been trying to get this done since I posted about it last week and we’re both just so busy it’s hard to find a big chunk of time to do it. This morning consisted of Carole taking both our of girls while I worked out and then I came home so she could run and then I watched the girls. By the time we both had worked out we didn’t have a lot of time before the girls had to be at gymnastics but our Type A personalitites couldn’t stop us from going for it. (Hence, the two of us looking fabulous in our workout gear) We ended up not having enough time and she had to leave with the girls while I finished up with the huge mess we had made. See, it’s the mess I do not like at all. How do you keep it from getting so messy? I can’t even imagine doing this inside. We already got it all over my patio.

We learned a lot from our experience and will do some things differently the next time. Foam brushes will be used next time for sure. All in all we are really excited with how the colors turned out. I need to try and get a better picture of it. C’ skein is drying right now and she mixed her colors in a little bit different colorway. I think I’m also going to make a warping board for when we try and do sock yarn. This yarn will probably go to making felty bags.

It’s 4:00pm and I now need to take a shower and get ready for Stitch ‘n’ Bitch. I’ll tell you. I need a beer after today. But hooray! We dyed pretty yarn!

Fall Fiber Fiesta?

Did any of you happen to notice that this

Balloon Fiesta

coincides with this?

Taos

Well Chris and I did. We thought it could be a pretty fun weekend. I know there is Rhinebeck but maybe some of you would be interested in this too? (By no means am I saying not to do Rhinebeck but some of you could drive here!)  People could fly in on October 5th or 6th and drive up to Taos and we could all meet during the day on Saturday and maybe do a big dinner? Sunday, everyone could drive back down to Albuquerque and we could wake up early and watch the Balloons take off on the 9th before going? You know? Just a thought. Anyone interested? So many of you keep telling me you miss NM and wish you could come back here …… I know my Stitch ‘n’ Bitch gang has talked about going up there. Why not make it an even bigger group!? And hey, you could even visit Village Wools while here. We’ll be in our new space by then too. Any takers?

Don’t be a hater

It’s 70′ and 12% humidity right now and I need to go put on some shorts because I’m hot. Girlfriend and I just thought you might like to know. I guess you can hate me a little bit.

sunny day

This is the view from our back yard. I will never get sick of looking at the Sandias and how the sky goes from light blue to almost a purple blue. Every day I look at those mountains and feel so lucky to live here. I mean, it’s like this almost every single day. How can you not love that?

mountains
I guess I’ll go and finish working on my socks. It’s kind of strange to be knitting wool socks when it’s 70′ outside isn’t it?

The Secret!

As I’ve told some of you, this won’t really be a of importance to you but for some you’ll be very excited. I’m happy to present……. the Sock Club Blog for the Rockin’ Sock Club!

banner

Mimsie, Kris and I are really excited to host this blog for all of the members. We think it will be a fun place to share in our excitement over the beautiful yarn we get before it’s released to the public. If you haven’t signed up yet do it! Even if you just get one kit you can come play. Also, make sure you read the FAQ’s. This was something we are totally doing on our own and the girls at Blue Moon really want to make sure that everyone knows this. We paid for our memberships and get nothing out of this except for the beautiful yarn just like everyone else who signed up for the club.

Here’s a button for the taking. You know the hotlinking rules. I hope to see you over there.

I’m off to work!

I’m a very bad influence

Have you noticed that? I feel the need to make all of you spend money right alone with me if I see new, cool things out there in the land of knitting. I can’t just keep it all to myself can I? That would be way too selfish. Therefore, I must share this. Who is this pretty lady? Most of you know. Some of you may not. Do I need a warning here like the sock club? This is a beautiful new collection…… click the pretty woman, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. You can blame K & Siow for showing me first. Oh wait. I’m working on taking accountability for my own lack of self control. Margene keeps telling me this. Fine. It’s all my own fault! I’m weak. Maybe I need to see a therapist. “Hi, my name is Scout. I can’t stop buying pretty yarn and patterns. HELP!” It could be worse I guess.

Kim

Of course you know the kit I immediately loved. Why does everything purple catch my eye? *sigh* But it is pretty isn’t it?

must.

stop.

looking!

The best part of working in a yarn store?

The few times of the day when it’s actually slow, we knit! I mean how much better does it get than that? It’s not like I get a ton done, but it’s still fun to be able to just grab my sock and knit a row or two when/if I can. Today we were all knitting socks. I think Franzi could win an Olympic medal for how fast she knits. She says it just *looks* faster because of the movement of her hands but we all know better. I swear she can stand there in 5 minutes and make a sock. Can everyone out there send her safe travel vibes as she makes a quick little trip home to Switzerland? We’ll miss you Franzi. Hurry up and come back soon. Okay?

In other news? Holy crap. I had put my Jaywalkers in the washing machine earlier today thinking I’d take them out and let them dry on the back porch in the sun. (Should hand-knit socks not even go into the washer!? Dang. Am I a total moron for even doing that?) I was gone all day and my sweet, dear, T. did the laundry. You know where this is going right? I just asked him if they went into the dryer too. Uh huh. I was scared to see them. After all that work I expected them to be a pile of yarn which would make me cry. But guess what? I can’t believe it but they are totally fine. The color washed out a teeny bit but they fit perfectly and didn’t fall apart. Lucky me. Doh.

One Skein again…..

For anyone who buys One Skein I found this cool KAL Blog.  Isn’t that rug amazing?

Have you seen these books?

I saw this book today the second I walked into the shop. Oh. My. Goodness is it cool! Click the picture to see some of the projects in it.

Felted Bags

Aren’t those bags amazing? Then there is this book I saw on Monday. It’s just way too dangerous for me and all of my friends to work in the shop because I see all of this cool stuff!

One Skein

I am completely in love with the page with the newborn baby with the cutest hat ever. I highly recommend both of these new books.

Sorry to leave you hanging on the secret thing. Hopefully I can tell you soon!

Secrets

Oh I have something really exciting to share but I can’t yet. If you know about this be quiet. Hopefully by the end of the day I can tell you all. It’s something I’m going to be doing with Miyon & Kris. It has to do with yarn. Pretty yarn. Super pretty yarn.

Are you on the edge of your seats? Well good! Check back soon for all of the details.

I woke up too early this morning….. nevermind! (I edited this part) Maybe this year I’ll go to Rhinebeck…..

Testing

Thanks Country Girl for showing me this. I finally figured out how to split a post. Did it work?

Just ignore this. I wanted to see if I can put pictures behind the cut too… (Read the article)
