PoMo Meme

I like this idea my girl Bev came up with so I tag anyone who has no knitting content to post today to do this meme. Come on. This one is an easy one. What’s your favorite painting? Simply post it and explain why.

My choice is a very sentimental one. Years ago I visited the Guggenheim with my father. He’s been a surgeon for almost 40 years now but he’s also a very talented artist. He can take one look at a piece of art and duplicate it with amazing precision. While we were at the museum he told me to pick something I liked in the store and he would paint it for me. There was something about this Picasso that caught my eye. I just think it’s beautiful.

And here is mine done by my father.

The picture isn’t great but you get the idea. I love it because it was painted just for me. It really is beautiful just like the original. He also did Van Gogh’s Wheat Field With Crows for me too. Here is the original. I love art. I have some really special pieces all over my house you can see here if you would like.  My other favorite piece is the big piece in my dining room that is felted.  It represents the creativity in all of us.

Wonderful painting! I admire the pictures of your house. I love ALBQ, my parents lived there in the early 70s and we
visited them many times. I visited VW during Balloon Fest last Oct. Maybe next time we can get together.

I have prints of two paintings that are supposedly by Max Hayslette, but I sure as heck can’t find them online… The paints are “Silvered Apricot” and “Century Cherry.” I’ll have to email the little pictures to you!

What talent and what a great gift! How funny, I have a very similar Picasso
of Madonna and Child hanging in my living room. T. has good taste.

Wow. Your father’s rendition is awesome.

I love art too; we have a lot of it in the house. My uncle is an artist…too bad I never got any of those genes. ;)

That is very cool. I don’t know what I would pick. Of course half my mind is still on that stupid cat. She’s just being stubborn at this point. Grr.

That’s such a great painting. I have a lot of work by a good friend of mine, Linda Jean Fisher
in my house, but also watercolors by Michael Patterson, both of whom work in NY/CT.
    Thanks for playing!

That’s really neat. I’ve often thought to trying to do some fake Rothkos - mostly cause I figure they’d not be so difficult for me to recreate that I couldn’t do it. But I’d probably prove myself wrong!

I’m sorry things didn’t work out for meeting up in Albuquerque. It’s taken me a while to catch up on reading, but I finally think I’m caught up on all the blogging you did in the meantime. We’ll definitely meet up in the fall!

Great artwork. You know how much I love your home, too. It’s got such wonderful lines and light. (Tell me, where did you get that rope chair next to the fireplace? I’ve been looking for that for years.)

HOLY FUCK Someone else who loves _Wheatfield With Crows_! I saw it in person a few years ago and it’s been one of my favorite pictures, but most people don’t know of it or like it. Pfui! Now if only Van Gogh had had a easier name, I would have named a cat that.

The painting I always remember as a child in my house was the “Crying Boy”, it was such a sad picture
I use to look at it as a child and wonder what made him sad,it was’nt until years later I heard about the storey regarding this painting, it was called “The Curse of the Crying Boy. Houses that this painting had
been in had gone on fire, everything destroyed except for the painting. OK this is kind of morbid, anyway I
don’t have this painting in my house. I frame my kids artwork and they are on display all over my house.

That’s amazing! I have always envied those who could make art, especially drawing since all I can manage is stick figures. You must cherish these pieces very much. How nice to have things your dad made for you.

Wow, your dad is so talented! Isn’t it great when something with sentimental value is also, you know, actually good? I’m very impressed.
