Scout's Knitted Swag

&%$&#(%&#)&*@#$)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had the worst day. It started off great with dyeing two skeins of Appletini for a custom order and then I went to my soccer game. When I came home I tried to open up my e-mail and it wouldn’t work at ALL. I use Moxilla Thunderbird and it’s completely jacked up. I’ve tried everything I know how to do to fix it but I can’t. If I owe you an e-mail please re-send it. I’m having to use the horrible Comcast online program for now and I’m going to lose my shit if I have to use it much longer than a few hours because it’s horrible.

Anyone out there have any idea how to fix something like this? The problem is that it won’t load my inbox. It’s so strange. I even downloaded the newest version and that didn’t do anything. Is this what happend when you get a worm or something in your e-mail? I have really good protection on this computer so I can’t imagine how that could happen.

I’m not good with things like not being able to get my e-mail. I also have hundreds of saved e-mails in different folders on there too. Someone please help me before I throw my computer out of the window.

Yummmmay

I had to hide this after a while at work today because I thought someone might steal it or convince me to sell it to them. Don’t worry Julsey. It’s home safe and sound and all skeined up and purty and ready to ship to you.

Sweet Pea

The colors are actually even more vibrant off of this damn screen. I’m having a hard time capturing true colors with some of these colorways with green. But still. Yummmmm.

I have 3 other custom orders in line and I can’t wait to dye them. I might stay busy with just custom orders! Actually, I am planning on updating the shop next Friday. Tomorrow morning I have a soccer game at 9:00am and then I’ll dye from 12:00 until I go out with some girlfriends at 5:30. I hope I remember to keep the rubber gloves on so I’m not hitting the town with green hands. Not so sexay!

And, I totally did try and sell the Shingle yarn. Just ask my girl Bev!

Sweet Pea

is my newest colorway. Julsey from Peony Knits contacted me about doing a custom colorway for her. She said she liked pinks, yellow and green. We looked at a few different pictures and below is one I really liked.

Sweet Pea

She mentioned that the green was too dark in the picture and she wanted it to be much brighter in her yarn. What caught my eye in this picture was the shades of pink and the variegated white throughout. She wanted self-striping superwash too. I loved the challege of this! I’ve never really considered myself an artist so I guess this is as close as I’ll ever get. After work at the shop I came home, warped the board and got to work on mixing the colors. I even made little mini-skeins Dave, as testers. For the Queen of Impatience that was a big deal. This is what I came up with. The picture doesn’t capture the true colors very well but you get the idea. I ended up doing 2 shades of pink, yellow & green. I didn’t cover the yarn solidly as I really wanted some of the white to come through. Clicky to see up close.

Sweet Pea

I’m really happy with how it came out and want to do it again. I’m thinking of doing a variegated version of it too. Leave me some feedback okay? I want to just dye what people want and would love to know if this one would be a good colorway to sell.

I need to get going on another custom order. I had someone order two, superwash skeins of Appletini. That one is wicked popular! Oh! Also? I spoke with one of the owners of the shop who was excited about carrying my hand painted yarn. How cool will that be? “Hi! You want some sock yarn? How about some really cool yarn dyed by ME!” Heh.

I’m off to the Farmer’s Market. I told the kids we’d go get some breakfast there and pick up some other goodies. Anyone awake? Want to meet us there? I’ll be at work from 12:30-6 today so come visit me and check out all of the new stuff we put out this week. The one yarn that created hours of humor yesterday was the new Louisa Harding yarn called Shingle. Why, in the world would you name a yarn that? And yes, I get that it’s from her Beachcomber Bay Collection. But come on….. I’m going to try and sell as much of that today as possible. “Hi! Can I help you? Would you like some Shingles?” I’m so mature…..I think she needs a Crabs yarn too.  “I think the Crabs would look great with Shingle!”  Okay. I’ll stop.

The New Drink

Toothlesstini! The ToothlessWonder wanted in on the photo shoot. This was a custom order for Mama-E. She just *had* to have some Appletini. Of course I had to hook my sistah-friend up. This is 100% Merino Superwash and it held the bright colors even better than the other one I sold yesterday. I actually, suprisingly, love this colorway. It looks darker than the other one but it really isn’t. ( Click to see up close)

tini Appletini
This color has been the most difficult for me to get pictured properly. It’s actually even more vibrant than the pictures show. If you can believe that. Can you tell I’m really enjoying this?

OMG!

I have never, in my whole life, been happier to finished a knitted item as I am now. Sockapaloooza Socks are freaking DONE! I can now knit whatever the hell I want. I know I’m doing the Shadow Shawl next, but man, it feels good to not have that pressure on me. They are so beautiful. At some point I will have to make myself a pair.

socks

I even made a pretty label too. If you want to know the details read this other post.

I can now fondle my Koigu and start looking at this new pattern.

Also….. Superboy has left the building. It’s gone!

And They’re Off!

packages

There’s only one leetle skein left. Poor Superboy! Otherwise, everything is going in the mail today and if you bought some, you should receive it within 2-3 days. This whole process went so well I’m super encouraged to do more. Tired, but encouraged.

I’m off for a run and then I’m hoping to hit my shop up for more yarn. I also am waiting for a new shipment of superwash & nylon. Yummmmmmm.

Bye-Bye My Pretties….

bye-bye

These pretties have all found new homes. Thank you all for your kind words and support. It really means a lot to me. I had fun leaving for the morning to have a belated birthday lunch with some girlfriends to come back to see 5 skeins had sold! It really gets me excited to dye more yarn and get it up in the shop.

I started with 11 skeins yesterday and am left with these 4 3 2 ONE!. Whoops! As I was posting this I sold another one….say buh-bye to StrangelittleScout! And just a little bit later 2 more sold and now? Superboy is the only one left…..

unsold

I know they are smaller skeins but they are all self-striping and Scoutlet & Superboy are superwash. I know you want some to make your kiddos socks! And this is it for a while so get them while they’re still there! Or I guess my kids will get their yarn back? Shhhh. Don’t tell them I’m selling their yarn okay?

Bises to everyone!

Why I’m Eating Crow

banner

I’m blaming every single one of you for this. Yes you, you and YOU! Actually, I don’t want to disappoint my knitster friends. You know? Ha! If you really want to buy my yarn, I guess I should sell it. And, T. will be happy for me to support my new habit. He’s been slowly realizing how much dye and yarn I’ve been bringing into the house and has been shooting me suspicious looks. I was happy to tell him I was going to finally sell it.

I don’t know how often I’ll really be able to update my little shop so we’ll just see how I do with what I have. I decided to part with everything I’ve made so far. I already sold 2 skeins yesterday to my friend Paula so those aren’t even up on the shop. She posted a picture for you to see. She bought my first version of Carnival.
I won’t make you wait any longer. I’m proud to present my new Etsy shop - Scout’s Hand Painted Swag. Now go buy it all so I can get more to dye! There are also 3 colorways there I dyed yesterday and you haven’t even SEEN! Go! Hurry!

Eat Crow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To eat boiled crow is to be proven wrong after having strongly expressed one’s opinion.

In North America the expression is simply to eat crow.

Stay tuned for details.  But this is all I can say or I’ll give it away!

And The Winner Is?

Well, no one! I can’t believe y’all didn’t get it. What I did was picked the one that I liked the best and that was from Dee! Curious George.

The actual colorway was inspired by this website: (Notice how I said inspired….not to match exactly! It’s my artistic interpretation!  You hear that Miss Norma? You are still a winner in my heart Norma.  I threw the white in for his kitty too. If you go look at his blog the background is a pretty chestnutty color and that’s what I used as one of the main stripes)

from my buddy Dave of Cabin Cove. So that became this: (Click to see bigger)

Cabin Cove

Cabin Cove - The Striped Edition! I am so happy with how it turned out. I would have preferred the yellow to be a bit less bright but overall it’s really beautiful. Dave is so funny and smart and wicked (he’s from Boston you know!) talented and makes me laugh. It was fun making him a colorway.

So Dee wins this one. I’m calling it Lilacs in Bloom.

lilacs in bloom

This was the first time I used my color wheel and did split complimentary colors and I LOVE it. It has black cherry, lilac, two shades of green and a pinkish red. I can’t believe I’m actually going to part with it. I can recreate it so it’s okay. So Dee? Please send me your snail mail and I’ll get this off to you.
