I finally caved and let Supergirl dye some yarn. She asks every day if she can help me and there’s no way I’ll let her anywhere near the dyes I’m using. This morning I was in Hobby Lobby looking for a frame and had a 40% off coupon. The frame didn’t pan out but a pound of Sugar’n Cream did. I’m going to make washcloths for the kids out of their own hand painted yarn. I think we’ll also do this as gifties this year. We’ll use something that will hold the dyes more permanently for the gifts. I think their grandparents would dig that.
She had the best time and the yarn turned out super pretty! I think she’s a natural. Click this picture to see the slideshow. It’s pretty damn cute if I do say so myself.
I think it’s pretty cool that she turned this into this:

She hasn’t seen it yet because it’s been drying while she naps. She’s going to flip out over how cool it is. Now everything smells like Kool Aid. I might have to abandon my Shadow Shawl so I can make a few washcloths. Don’t you think she needs a martini wash cloth?
Also, you should know that Kool-Aid on cotton isn’t a very permanent dye. Thanks to Noelle and a bit of research, I’m going to try getting some Dye Fixative to see if it I can *seal* it more permanently. We shall see…..

great job, supergirl!
Soooooo cute! I think I might have to dye up some cotton. I could make the Mason Dixon washrags with it!! I think she’s definitely old enough for a martini wash cloth!
That is one of the cutest things i’ve ever seen. I need to get dyeing with my kids. unfortunately, it’ll be the blind leading the blind as i’ve never dyed anything, but we’ll have a good time getting our dye on.
Awesome Job Supergirl! What can I say–the family is gifted!!!
Not sure about the Martini since she’s a little young–but your pal
strange little mama has a neat alien one on her blog.
Still great Job –makes me want to try it too.
Very nice! You’ve inspired me to do the same with my little daughter. If we can get a reasonably sunny weekend that is…..
Wow, I hope there’s enough there for a wash cloth for ME!
Wow, Supergirl’s colorways have turned out better than some of mine! Great job Supergirl!

Well I feel great now - one of her colorways turned out like one I did this weekend - maybe I have some secret Scout dye-o-rama genes!
Way to go, Supergirl!
She’s a little Picasso!
Go supergirl! Great due job!!
wow, I am impressed
She did great, and she comes by her talent naturally.

Wow, she did a super job. A natural. It encourages me to get dyeing. Thank you for your Ghetto warping board tutorial…I made mine today and super proud of it. (Yay for power tools!)
My DD was bugging me to no end tonight while I was mixing dyes. She is dying to DYE with me. I will probably do the same with her this weekend with koolaid.

Great job, Supergirl! Hopefully your mom can get that fixative so the color will stick.
The martini glass dishcloth is FUNNY. Does Carole know about that?!

Tell Supergirl that she’s an inspiration to this 48 year old grandma who’s a Dye-ORama first timer.
She is a Supergirl!! Love the shades on her too! Tell her what a great job we all think she did.
