Scalpel STAT!

T. has his knee surgery tomorrow and actually no scalpels will be involved. Yep. He saw the surgeon yesterday and thank goodness he liked T. enough to get him right in. Because you know that’s how it all works right? You should always be super nice to all receptionists and doctors. I’ll drop him off early, come home and bring the kids to camp and then go back and hunker down until he’s done. I guess I’ll get some knitting or crocheting done? They said they are going to try and repair the meniscus but more than likely just take out the torn piece. Hopefully it won’t take too long. After my mother died I don’t do very well in a waiting room in a hospital let alone by myself. If you can send some good thoughts over to Abq in the morning I’d appreciate it. Do they have WiFi in hospitals? Maybe I can bring my laptop and be totally distracted.

I knew I’d be busy for the next few days taking care of T. so Supergirl and I got a whole bunch of stuff done today. We went to a few different stores to pick up some crafting supplies. Can you tell which fabric Supergirl picked out? She wants a bag too. (click to see bigger)

We also went to my store for buttons. Did you know that Village Wools has the best selection of buttons in the city? We have some super cool buttons. I love the sock monkey fabric she picked out. I can’t wait to see how those two look together though….
We also got these. I’m sure you can tell what I’m going to do with them.

We then came home and made some special cookies for T. They are called, “Oatmeal Chocolate Chip We Hope Your Knee Gets Better Fast Cookies!” Supergirl came up with that one. They are amazing. Here is the recipe if you want it. Don’t they look yummy? Since my little chef was still in the mood to cook she made herself a quesadilla for lunch.

Now I’m going to see what I can do with those little monkeys. I’m going to alter the pattern so it fits the kids better. I’m feeling pretty confident. We shall see….

Good vibes for both you and T will be winging their way to Abq tomorrow morning. I *believe* the hospital in my little hometown in MN has wi-fi so there may be a good chance you’d have access to total distraction….

BTW, on the crocheting thing, did you mostly learn via the book or via someone showing you?? I’m sooo tempted as there is a pattern in the current Spin-Off that I *really* want to make!

Best of luck tomorrow. Supergirl reminds me of my own daughter with all of those baby hairs framing her face. My daughter is now nearly 20 and still has them!

As someone who works in healthcare I.T., I’m in hospitals all the time, and it’s been my experience that most don’t yet have wireless, although more and more and getting it, at least for internal employee use. Whether they make it free and readily available for public use is a whole ‘nother ball o’ wax, and I would guess that an even smaller number of those who have wireless networks allow any old Joe Schmoe on it for their personal use. Perhaps if it’s a big academic medical center with a food court and a Starbucks-type place, they might have it, and perhaps also in their library. I would say that most community hospitals won’t have it. They have a hard enough time keeping their clinical systems up and running without having to try and also provide wireless access to the public. There’s the whole security issue and regulations around access to patient’s private information, which of course, can be partitioned away from public access, but most places aren’t interested in that additional headache.

Sorry for the dissertation. I’ll be interested to know if you find out that your hospital has it.
