UFO Meme. And No. Not that kind of UFO….

I know I live in the land of UFO’s but this is a very serious matter. A finished object aka FO? Haven’t seen one around Chez Scout in a looooong time. I can’t even remember the last thing I finished. Maybe my sockapaloooza socks? Holy crap. That was three months ago. And let me just say that until started working at Village Wools I never had more than one thing on my needles at a time. Or, it was a pretty rare thing. It’s not like I haven’t been doing anything crafty. I mean, let’s not forget the 200+ skeins of yarn I’ve dyed in that time and the numerous things I’ve sewn. I guess I should give myself some credit. But still. I need to knit!

I used to be a monagomous knitter too. Now I feel like such an unfaithful wench. Sorry Shadow Shawl. Sorry Ruffles. Sorry sock. Sorry cute crochet scarf. I promise to finish you all once the weather cools down. I just don’t like to knit in the summer. I think I need to impose some sort of structured knitting time in my life. Like I can’t watch my TV at night without at least one hour of knitting? I can send myself to knitting jail every night. I need something to motivate me to knit so I knew when I saw Wicked Stitches show us the bag she desiged I would wait patiently for the pattern and this would be my summer FO. Isn’t it awesome? I really love it.

bag

I’m also being a good girl and using stash yarn to make it. I have some Filatura de Crosa cotton that was my mamas. I started it last night and couldn’t put it down. I told Ariane last night it’s totally addictive. So I’m going to finish this. Y’all hear me? And I’m going to Stitch ‘n’ Bitch tonight. I haven’t been in forever and I need to be put in knitting jail.

Tell me I’m not the only one? Has anyone else gone three months without a FO? Who has the most UFO’s? (Unfinished Objects for those that don’t know) We should have a contest. I know I only have a few. We need a new meme in knitland. Share your deep dark knitting secrets. Just how many UFO’s do you have? come on. You’ll feel better. Maybe we can start a whole wave of motivation throughout the community by fessing up. Pass it around and post on your blog. It’s a rainy day here if you can believe it and I want to see how unfaithful you all are. You know, to make myself feel better. Okay, I’ll wait, go ahead, go count them. Wait, go into that closet too, and that drawer, and in that trunk, and under the bed……

I really like this meme! I think I’m going to participate, if only to get my lazy a** in gear and finish some projects!

As I was looking at the post my sister walked past me in excitement
to see her picture posted on someone else’s page:o)

Shooot, that bag did it for me! I was just as addicted and got
it done FAST! I’m so proud of myself.

But on the embarrasing part of this post: I would have to say
that I have a shameful 20 or so, ufo’s. It’s gotten so bad that I
had to resort to buy NEW needles because all the other one’s are
occupied and I refuse to have wasted preciouse knitting time just
to rip a needle out…just to start, and possibly, not finish.

If you’d asked me this like, a week ago, I would have said… I wasn’t sure when my last FO was. But I /finally/ finished a pair of Koigu socks about a week ago, so I have actually finished something lately.

However, I suppose this means I should really confess about the FOUR remaining pairs of socks which are currently in the works, plus the toddler sweater (that only needs seaming and a collar - how sad is that?!), and the scarf for hubby. And I suspect there’s at least one more out there that I’m forgetting about.

    Pitiful, really. I’m so fickle.

Any UFOs? Me? Hell, no! I don’t believe in ‘em. Aliens, yes. UFO’s, no. I rip things back to get them off the needles, and remove the quilt. Granted, I finally finished a pair of mittens, but that’s the firs things finished since New Hampshire S&W.

I finished a pair of socks in June. I have a pair on the needles, have frogged Odessa 5
(FIVE) times, two sweaters, and a blanket on the needles.

My SP8 gave me some Sari Silk, and I was thinking using it for this bag. I wonder.

Um… Looking at my blog I have a bunch. I counted only 3 UFO’s and one is on official UFO never to be touched unless a certain biblical entity where the guy in the red suit with the pointy tail lives freezes over…

I just finished a sock yesterday (it only took 3 months)
but I really want to knit this bag and I have some
perfect stash yarn for the pattern.
I blame it on the rain, it makes you want to knit
    (and sing Milli Vanilli songs).

I actually had a blog entry a couple of weeks ago about my UFOs for
another bloggers contest. I counted ten total, but have since finished one
of them (the One Skein Wonder). But the last time I finished something before
that? About two months ago I think :(

  14. Posted August 1, 2006 at 9:38 am | Permalink
    14

Um, two. Do you hate me? They’ve been UFO for a long time, though, so they really count! Last FO was a (shhhh!) dishcloth about ten days ago, and the last real FO before that was a pair of socks about a month ago.

It just gets too freakin’ hot in the summer to knit. And the humidity kills any interest I have. Or did, until someone gave me some really pretty Cherry Tree Hill yarn and I started knitting a pair of Jaywalkers.

However, I have a massive UFO. It’s my entry from the Knitting Olympics, a Faroese Peaks Shawl which has been promised to my mom for um…almost a year now. I didn’t start it until February, but I definitely first told her about it last fall. Darn.

Actually, I’m not in too bad a shape. I have an unfinished pair of socks, 3 sweaters (1 that I don’t think I’ll ever finish) and I think that’s it. Not too bad.

Oh oh… I weighing it at 10 and I can’t believe just this morning I was considering
winding up some skeins of more sock yarn –I was eyeing that pumpkin somores for
August’s Project Spectrum Neutrals. Also, I joined Summer of Socks KAL and btwn this,
and BMFA Rockin Sock Club, and Project Spectrums… I must say I am beginning to
feel a little overwhelmed. So whats on my list of UFOs: 6 pairs of socks (2 from your supply),
My first Sweater, A Fiber Trends Sheep Tote (both purple for July PS), A toddler blanket
(which is my olders FO and I better finish before my baby stops being a toddler)… And
a pair of Fiber Trends felted clogs and thats it! So should I cast on more stuff?

Will I be able to restrain myself from all those yummy neutral fibers from my stash?
That picture had me thinking about casting on a market bag:)

I have 12 official ufo’s and at least 4-6 others that are toad’s (tossed out - abandoned in disgust)… but not ripped yet.

I did have a very official FO just last month - my no gauge swatch top (whoo hoo!) but before that I think it was my Jaywalkers which were finished oh, in May I think.

I think the worst part of the FO’s that I do have - is that some of them are coming up to 5 years old now - and it’s not like I can send them off to kindergarten to get them out from under my feet until they’re finished! 9 of them do have good potential - and I still do want them - just haven’t worked on any of them in a while.

I’ve been meaning to do a UFO expose’ on my blog, thanks for the inspiration!

So do we have to count the crocheted UFO’s too? I’m going to skip that and say that I have 11 knitting UFO’s. The sad thing is that I just cast on for a new project the other day and frankly I plan to cast on for another on in the next week or two…….The really sad part is that 6 of those UFOs are 70% or more finished. It’s just too much fun to start new things!

    Meme is right!
No way can I answer that without a house scouring effort… which will lead, inevitably, to a blog post.
And better still, that’s a project I can do indoors and still feel productive. With weather like we all seem to be having, I can GO for that!
    But,
off the top of my head … there are at least 7 projects (WIPs?) on the needles… I KNOW I’ll find more if I actually LOOK for them.

    Hi, Scout.

A group of four stood around yacking one day, and it came out that between the few of us we had about a dozen sewing machines. Then one day I took a census of the handweavers’ guild and among the 25 of us there were over 100 looms (long ago, I forget the exact figures). Inkle looms and sets of weaving cards included.

So how many scissors, how many knitting needle sets, how many Chibis, how many designated knitting bags? How many spinning wheels does the average knitter have? (One wheel here, and three spindles.)

I know I have at least a dozen UFOs, some of which are destined to lead contemplative lives in my various drawers and closets for… well, a very long time. And no, I haven’t finished anything lately. The Trekking sock goes very slowly. I haven’t done any Dulaan or breastfeeding knitting. In a word, I’ve been a sloth.

Not that you asked for it, but my vote is for picking up that Shadow Shawl! You just barely had it started on your needles when I visited the shop in April - not much more than a little picot edge. Now I can see it’s going to be gorgeous! I’m a fine one to talk, I bought the pattern while I was there a VW, and do I even have the yarn for mine figured out yet? Yikes. But you go girl - it’s really going to be lovely. Can’t wait to see it as an FO!
