I know I live in the land of UFO’s but this is a very serious matter. A finished object aka FO? Haven’t seen one around Chez Scout in a looooong time. I can’t even remember the last thing I finished. Maybe my sockapaloooza socks? Holy crap. That was three months ago. And let me just say that until started working at Village Wools I never had more than one thing on my needles at a time. Or, it was a pretty rare thing. It’s not like I haven’t been doing anything crafty. I mean, let’s not forget the 200+ skeins of yarn I’ve dyed in that time and the numerous things I’ve sewn. I guess I should give myself some credit. But still. I need to knit!
I used to be a monagomous knitter too. Now I feel like such an unfaithful wench. Sorry Shadow Shawl. Sorry Ruffles. Sorry sock. Sorry cute crochet scarf. I promise to finish you all once the weather cools down. I just don’t like to knit in the summer. I think I need to impose some sort of structured knitting time in my life. Like I can’t watch my TV at night without at least one hour of knitting? I can send myself to knitting jail every night. I need something to motivate me to knit so I knew when I saw Wicked Stitches show us the bag she desiged I would wait patiently for the pattern and this would be my summer FO. Isn’t it awesome? I really love it.
I’m also being a good girl and using stash yarn to make it. I have some Filatura de Crosa cotton that was my mamas. I started it last night and couldn’t put it down. I told Ariane last night it’s totally addictive. So I’m going to finish this. Y’all hear me? And I’m going to Stitch ‘n’ Bitch tonight. I haven’t been in forever and I need to be put in knitting jail.
Tell me I’m not the only one? Has anyone else gone three months without a FO? Who has the most UFO’s? (Unfinished Objects for those that don’t know) We should have a contest. I know I only have a few. We need a new meme in knitland. Share your deep dark knitting secrets. Just how many UFO’s do you have? come on. You’ll feel better. Maybe we can start a whole wave of motivation throughout the community by fessing up. Pass it around and post on your blog. It’s a rainy day here if you can believe it and I want to see how unfaithful you all are. You know, to make myself feel better. Okay, I’ll wait, go ahead, go count them. Wait, go into that closet too, and that drawer, and in that trunk, and under the bed……

Heh, maybe 9? Or so? Roughly.
That’s a very cute bag!
Aw, Man! And you live in NM and I thought we were going to get a cool Roswell-type story today.
:o)
That’s so funny! I just took a picture of all my unfinished socks. Hehehe.
As I was looking at the post my sister walked past me in excitement
to see her picture posted on someone else’s page:o)
Shooot, that bag did it for me! I was just as addicted and got
it done FAST! I’m so proud of myself.
But on the embarrasing part of this post: I would have to say
that I have a shameful 20 or so, ufo’s. It’s gotten so bad that I
had to resort to buy NEW needles because all the other one’s are
occupied and I refuse to have wasted preciouse knitting time just
to rip a needle out…just to start, and possibly, not finish.
If you’d asked me this like, a week ago, I would have said… I wasn’t sure when my last FO was. But I /finally/ finished a pair of Koigu socks about a week ago, so I have actually finished something lately.
However, I suppose this means I should really confess about the FOUR remaining pairs of socks which are currently in the works, plus the toddler sweater (that only needs seaming and a collar - how sad is that?!), and the scarf for hubby. And I suspect there’s at least one more out there that I’m forgetting about.
Pitiful, really. I’m so fickle.
Any UFOs? Me? Hell, no! I don’t believe in ‘em. Aliens, yes. UFO’s, no. I rip things back to get them off the needles, and remove the quilt. Granted, I finally finished a pair of mittens, but that’s the firs things finished since New Hampshire S&W.
I finished a pair of socks in June. I have a pair on the needles, have frogged Odessa 5
(FIVE) times, two sweaters, and a blanket on the needles.
My SP8 gave me some Sari Silk, and I was thinking using it for this bag. I wonder.
I think I only have three…wait, no - four. And two don’t count ‘cuz their socks and I always have socks OTN :op
Oh and I finished a pair of socks on Sunday… ;o)
Um… Looking at my blog I have a bunch. I counted only 3 UFO’s and one is on official UFO never to be touched unless a certain biblical entity where the guy in the red suit with the pointy tail lives freezes over…
Love the bag, even though I have been knitting this summer, I still have 7-9 UFO’s.
I just finished a sock yesterday (it only took 3 months)
but I really want to knit this bag and I have some
perfect stash yarn for the pattern.
I blame it on the rain, it makes you want to knit
(and sing Milli Vanilli songs).
I actually had a blog entry a couple of weeks ago about my UFOs for
another bloggers contest. I counted ten total, but have since finished one
of them (the One Skein Wonder). But the last time I finished something before
that? About two months ago I think
Um, two. Do you hate me? They’ve been UFO for a long time, though, so they really count! Last FO was a (shhhh!) dishcloth about ten days ago, and the last real FO before that was a pair of socks about a month ago.
It just gets too freakin’ hot in the summer to knit. And the humidity kills any interest I have. Or did, until someone gave me some really pretty Cherry Tree Hill yarn and I started knitting a pair of Jaywalkers.
However, I have a massive UFO. It’s my entry from the Knitting Olympics, a Faroese Peaks Shawl which has been promised to my mom for um…almost a year now. I didn’t start it until February, but I definitely first told her about it last fall. Darn.
Actually, I’m not in too bad a shape. I have an unfinished pair of socks, 3 sweaters (1 that I don’t think I’ll ever finish) and I think that’s it. Not too bad.
Oh oh… I weighing it at 10 and I can’t believe just this morning I was considering
winding up some skeins of more sock yarn –I was eyeing that pumpkin somores for
August’s Project Spectrum Neutrals. Also, I joined Summer of Socks KAL and btwn this,
and BMFA Rockin Sock Club, and Project Spectrums… I must say I am beginning to
feel a little overwhelmed. So whats on my list of UFOs: 6 pairs of socks (2 from your supply),
My first Sweater, A Fiber Trends Sheep Tote (both purple for July PS), A toddler blanket
(which is my olders FO and I better finish before my baby stops being a toddler)… And
a pair of Fiber Trends felted clogs and thats it! So should I cast on more stuff?
Will I be able to restrain myself from all those yummy neutral fibers from my stash?
That picture had me thinking about casting on a market bag:)
Now, that’s good: 2nd generation stash yarn. Go for it! That’s a cute bag.
I have 12 official ufo’s and at least 4-6 others that are toad’s (tossed out - abandoned in disgust)… but not ripped yet.
I did have a very official FO just last month - my no gauge swatch top (whoo hoo!) but before that I think it was my Jaywalkers which were finished oh, in May I think.
I think the worst part of the FO’s that I do have - is that some of them are coming up to 5 years old now - and it’s not like I can send them off to kindergarten to get them out from under my feet until they’re finished! 9 of them do have good potential - and I still do want them - just haven’t worked on any of them in a while.
I’ve been meaning to do a UFO expose’ on my blog, thanks for the inspiration!
Abi
Ugh, I totally have gone longer than 3 months without a fo. I just forced myself to finish some baby presents lately, because otherwise I would have been decidedly fo-less for a long long time.
I don’t know if I dare show my UFO’s. People have just barely recovered from the shock of seeing my stash!
I don’t like UFO’s. I usually rip, rip, rip if I don’t like how something’s going.
Cute bag! I’ve been wanting to make one with the round handles, but can’t seem to find them in black here.
Thank you for the meme! I’ve been needing something to post about that wasn’t those stupid mittens of mine.
I’m gonna make up my own rule here that coz I don’t blog I don’t have to admit to the number.
Yes. I like that rule. :o)
I confessed to six UFOs last week, although they were just the ones nearest to me at the time. I’ve since completed two of the pairs of socks and frogged the sweater to start a new one.
Best of luck with yours…
That’s why I joined UFO August! I’ll post a picture tomorrow!
That’s why I joined UFO August! I’ll post a picture tomorrow. Great bag.
ehhhh, who knows. Tell me you aren’t doing it in black after all?
So do we have to count the crocheted UFO’s too? I’m going to skip that and say that I have 11 knitting UFO’s. The sad thing is that I just cast on for a new project the other day and frankly I plan to cast on for another on in the next week or two…….The really sad part is that 6 of those UFOs are 70% or more finished. It’s just too much fun to start new things!
Ok, ok, I’ll seriously look at what I have lying around and mention it on my blog, too…
Meme is right!
No way can I answer that without a house scouring effort… which will lead, inevitably, to a blog post.
And better still, that’s a project I can do indoors and still feel productive. With weather like we all seem to be having, I can GO for that!
But,
off the top of my head … there are at least 7 projects (WIPs?) on the needles… I KNOW I’ll find more if I actually LOOK for them.
Hi, Scout.
A group of four stood around yacking one day, and it came out that between the few of us we had about a dozen sewing machines. Then one day I took a census of the handweavers’ guild and among the 25 of us there were over 100 looms (long ago, I forget the exact figures). Inkle looms and sets of weaving cards included.
So how many scissors, how many knitting needle sets, how many Chibis, how many designated knitting bags? How many spinning wheels does the average knitter have? (One wheel here, and three spindles.)
I know I have at least a dozen UFOs, some of which are destined to lead contemplative lives in my various drawers and closets for… well, a very long time. And no, I haven’t finished anything lately. The Trekking sock goes very slowly. I haven’t done any Dulaan or breastfeeding knitting. In a word, I’ve been a sloth.
Okay, I’ll bite!
I’m in. I don’t have that many but some of them have been around a while. I’ll
go through them on my blog.
I don’t have many, but I did post mine–just to keep you happy!
Geez, if I had to post my UFOs….I am not sure if I could cram every of them in front of the camera! LOL
Don’t feel bad…I think that I have moste UFOs
most of these are sewings or weaved but…just too many.
I have tried to finish some, but some just have to wait better idea, or better figure
Ups..I forgot. I took photos of my UFOs in June. I took part of Tishs contest. (http://www.crazyaboutsox.blogspot.com/)
Since I haven’t posted pictures for a long time I think I will haul it all out and post a picture. Some of my UFOs are downright embarrassing. I’ve got a sweater that I know is at least three years old in there.
You asked for it! I’ve posted my UFOs on my blog.
Uhhh…believe it or not..not enough to be inspired or inspiring. Two socks. One shal. That’s it. I’m actively working on the shawl, a third pr of socks, and a summer top.
I did not find out about the meme until after I had posted my list–but here it is:
http://thepurloinedletter.blogspot.com/2006/07/from-ufos-to-fos.html
It is so reassuring and a lot of fun to read everybody else’s lists! Thanks!
Not that you asked for it, but my vote is for picking up that Shadow Shawl! You just barely had it started on your needles when I visited the shop in April - not much more than a little picot edge. Now I can see it’s going to be gorgeous! I’m a fine one to talk, I bought the pattern while I was there a VW, and do I even have the yarn for mine figured out yet? Yikes. But you go girl - it’s really going to be lovely. Can’t wait to see it as an FO!
Hi Scout! I’m new to your blog. One of our newest KAL members pointed me in the direction of your UFO MeMe. Sounds like you (and many of your readers) are a perfect candidate for our UFO August KAL!
I am stuck in a sock rut. I cast off a pair and immediately cast on a new pair. I have a scarf, bag, shawl, shrug and kimona all waiting for me to return to knitting them. I think they conspire at night to highjack my sock bag and hide it.
I did the meme on my blog. But of course forgot a few for the photos and then forgot a couple more than that!! But at least I got all the ones I’m trying to finish on vacation…
You can be amused: http://www.stumblingoverchaos.com/?p=240
Yikes! I need to get out my unfinished objects! I feel so shamed now…
Okay, I finally answered your meme here: http://marysvirginwool.blogspot.com/2006/08/in-which-there-is-actual-knitting.html
I finally uploaded the pics of my UFO’s—I know you’re all over this now, but I loved the idea. http://www.wavybrains.com/auntie_esq/2006/08/ufo_collection.html
Just one UFO as of yesterday but that has doubled to two by today… http://www.mrspao.com/blog/?p=632

[...] Scout’s challenged us to out our UFOs. *gulp* I posted about UFOs/WIPs back in December. Scarily, everything I mentioned in that post remains a UFO! Whoops… Sounds like I need to rip a few things out, doesn’t it?! And of course, I have new UFOs/WIPs, too. I’ll look around today and take some pictures. [...]
[...] In knitting news, I finished another cable purse, in Lambs Pride Bulky Kiwi. I just have to line it and it’s done. And actually, believe it or not, that’s the only unfinished object I have right now. So Scout, I’m either way too OCD, or I just haven’t been knitting long enough, but that’s all the UFO action I have for the meme. [...]
[...] I haven’t done this in a while — but Scout started a UFO meme, and I should really get a handle on my WiPs and UFOs.Garments Rogue. Rogue is sitting at around 75% done. I will finish it for winter, I swear. I’m at the flat knitting part and the oiled Peace Fleece from the cone is wrecking my wrists! I love the sweater though, and really want to finish it for winter. DH’s Peace Fleece sweater. 10% done. Hoping to finish this before December. Premiere Lace Cardi. 30% done? The back is done and one of the sleeves is about 1/3 done. I am just winging it and I think it’s starting to stress me out! Socks lace socks I designed #1 — blue Lorna’s Laces almost solid. 40% done. lace socks I designed #2 — Cabin Cove Dave yarn. 50% done. grey-rainbow twisted rib socks. 50% done. tall Knit Picks socks. 50% done. canal du midi socks. 20% done. I will probably frog this sock. Not happy with it at all, sadly. Trekking XXL socks. 50% done — past the heel on both socks but tempted to frog the heel and lengthen the foot a little. DH’s plain black socks. 10% done — one toe complete! He has big feet. Ellen’s 1/2 Pint Farm ribbed socks. 50% done. Spinning: merino/tencel. 45% done. 4oz left to spin, then plying! Winter/Kooler+corriedate. 10% done. Lots left to blend and spin! Fun but time consuming! Grafton Fibers merino batt. 10% done. Slippery! Corriedale pencil roving. 50% done. 4oz left to spin. Single ply. Love it. Other: Lace Leaf Shawl in burgundy wool. 10% done. [...]
[...] I came across this on Scout’s Knitted Swag. And since it’s been awhile since I finished anything bigger than a scarf, I thought I should properly shame motivate myself to finish something. Anything. Excuse the bright orange bedspread, it’s our summer one. [...]
