I’m sure at some point each of you have talked about what I’m asking you to write about but for my sake will you put it all together into once succinct post? On my run today I was thinking a lot about the things for which I am thankful. I was also thinking about how much has changed in my life over the last year and so much of it is because of all of you out there who endlessly support me. It’s what keeps me going everyday. Of course my family is my priority, but in terms of this business, I love being able to find this cool swag and get it into all of your little hands. Making you happy, in turn, makes me happy. As I thought about these things it led me to think about my mother.
Most of you know that my mother passed away almost 14 years ago from a brain anneurysm. She would have been 46 years old 3 weeks after she died. This picture was actually taken just a few short hours before the anneurysm happened. It’s amazing how quickly your life can change isn’t it?
This got me thinking about how I know all of you because of her. She taught me how to knit when I was eight years old. She had such great taste, loved to shop and showed me how to search and find the *cool* stuff that was out there that many people had never seen. She was the kind of knitter who tackled Vogue Patterns and wore the most stylish, knitted garments you’ve ever seen. It’s because of her that I am where I am right now. Let’s just forget the fact that I have my Master’s Degree and my teaching certificate. (Oh yeah and my real estate license and a few other things) I love what I’m doing and I know she would be really proud of me too. I’m pretty sure that wherever she is she’s wicked jealous of all of my cool swag and only wishes she could be here to buy it all from me. But it’s because of my mother, in a very roundabout way that I am now smack dab in the middle of this whole knitting world. I don’t think that 29 years ago she could have ever imagined I’d be running a little knitting shop online and selling yarn I dyed with my own hands…..
I also truly feel fortunate for all of the friends I have made over the years through my knitting and the internet. You all know that I met my best friend Carole online and in the last few years I’ve also met so many fantastic people through my blog and in the knit-world. With the launch of my shop and the recent addition of the new swag, I’ve met tons of new people too. It’s really amazing. I don’t think a lot of people really understand how it all works but I don’t care. I do believe that everything happens for a reason and each and every one of you have been brought into my life for a purpose. For reals Yo! Alrighty then. Should I stop with the mushy stuff? Okay. /done
Scout’s Meme:
1. How and when did you learn how to knit/crochet? Who taught you?
2. How has this craft impacted your life? (besides financially!)
3. Pick at least one person to talk about who you have met through the knit-world and why you are thankful to have met them. Feel free to get all mushy.
4. Comment and let me know when you post this in your blog so I can read them all.
Because I’m missing my mom, I really want to read about knitting and your lives. Okay? I want to see that knitting is as important to all of you as it is to me and why. Spread the love.

I am at work (shhhhhhhhhhh) with a sudden case of the sniffles! I will post about your meme within a few days on my blog soon, but all you have to do is go check out my blot to see the kindness of knitters in action. They have jumped in for a cause and brought back my faith in the human race! Knitters are truly the best.
(the typo’s on my comment above, are what happen when you are sneaking in a post from work ;))
(((((hug))))) Thanks for sharing about your mama. I’m posting the meme over at my blog now.
Thanks for sharing your mom with us. *hug*
I’m not a big fan of Meme’s, but I just had to do yours.
Your mom sounds like she was a great lady!
Posted answers to my blog.
After I finish blinking back these tears, I’ll go post. XXXXXXX.
Ahhh…your mom was gorgeous! Makes me miss mine….
Your mother was just beautiful! Big hugs and I hope you cheer up soon. I can’t imagine how hard it would be.
ah, so great. I’ll try to do the meme…
Jww
I guess we’re on the same wavelength or something! Check out my most recent post where I addressed some of the stuff you mentioned in your meme! I totally wrote that post before reading this. how funny (plus–I’m having a contest to celebrate my 1st knitting borthday)
Okies, but you know I can’t be succinct. I tend to yammer…
*huggles*
I usually don’t do memes, either, but you hit my mood exactly. My takes on the blog as of a few minutes ago. I’m thankful for you!
Your Mom was a very special person, and so are you. Without your Mom’s love of knitting and introducing you
to it, I probably would never have met you. Which would have been a loss for me as you are a very special person, and
your Mom would be so proud of you.
“Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
You’re only dancing on this earth
For a short while”
Your post made me think of these lyriccs. Thank you for sharing your memories and reminding us that time is vey short and therefore precious.
just did it, go read.
xo
It’s up. Well, we knew I couldn’t rest my arm all night anyway, might as well have a good reason to type.
Thank you for the meme - we could all benefit from some good warm fuzzies. I’ve been feeling remeniscent lately - thanks for helping me get some stuff “on paper”:)
Thank you for the the beautiful post.
I know your mom would be so proud of the person who you are and the things you have done with your life.
I wanted to say that this is a really great meme. Thank you! I posted my answer on my blog.
Way cool meme. I’ll be answering it later this week, for sure.
You won’t remember this, but a few months ago you posted a young picture of your mom and I commented on how much she looked like a college suitemate I had. Actually she looked VERY much like my suitemate’s older sister, Nina, who was a Junior when we were Freshmen.
I hope this doesn’t seem too morbid, but I have to say I was floored when you shared how your mother passed away, because that is also how Nina died, while on campus during summer session between our Freshman and Sophomore years.
I’m not really sure what to think about all that….
Okay, my answers are up at my blog. And now I need to go find some darn kleenex!
Awww…
as requested. Up on the blog in about ten minutes.
I posted your meme on my blog! Thanks for sharing about your Mom.
Oh, I’m missing your mom, too, and I never even knew her. It is startling how quickly events can turn. Hugs to you.
Oh Scout, what a timely post. My father nearly died this summer of a cerebral aneursym. He has had two coiling procedures and a shunt inserted. He’s doing well but will undergo another coiling on Tuesday. I am holding my breath. P.S.The bag and yarn are great.
I posted your meme on my blog. What a sweet post. I lost my mom to the same thing in April 2005 just a few days after her birthday.
i just posted my answers too! xoxo
Just posted my meme! Come on over.
Your mom sounds like she was a wonderful person. I am so sorry that she passed away. I have posted my answers to the meme. Have a good day.
Ah.. it’s so sad to lose someone close. I’ve posted answers on my blog…
My mother taught me how to knit. She died of a stroke when she was 50. I also had an aunt that died of an aneurysm at 38, so this is a condition that has always been scary to me through my life and has impacted me.
She was a great knitter. I think I will have to post this meme at my (not very often updated) blog!
*mwah*
I told you yesterday that your post made me all kinds of weepy & I’m mostly anti meme, BUT; I did it for you
♥
Thanks for sharing your special mom with us today. Your meme will be my next post.
{{hugs}}
I’m trying to post the meme, but of course Blogger is down for service… it should be up soon. Thanks for the chance to indulge in a little mushiness on a gray, rainy day.
My mom taught me to Sew, knit and just how to be a great mom and grandma…How to love unconditionally and to feel. Now we just found out that Dad’s kidney cancer of last year became Lung cancer this year. He lives in the south and me in the north is driving me crazy so I started my own blog….If you don’t mind I posted your site on my blog so other could come visit and tell you about their mom too. Thanks for sharing your special mom and reminding us that you don’t know what each minute will bring.
SueG {{HUGS}}
this would be your notification that i have jumped on your meme bandwagon!
Such a sweet post about your mom and I can just imagine how much you miss
her in your everyday life.
My grandmother taught me how to knit when I was either six or eight but it was
just the knit sts.
I miss my grandma which was like a mother to me and she died about 1992 of
colon cancer. Get over it, still not yet. I cry all the time like a baby when it hits
me how much I miss her. She would be proud of how I have turned out to be
such a strong young lady and watching out for my dad.
Better get off of here…this all is too overwhelming. Take care Scout and I hope
we fill your sad heart today with lots of love from us.
Great to read all of this, Scout…and I will be doing your meme…but today’s a big day and I want time to put some thought into it, so it will probably be done tomorrow morning
You rock.
XO~
bonnie
I posted the meme
I have had you on my mind since you posted this! I just posted my meme. Thanks for stirring up lots of memories!
We all should try to be moms like yours was.
My response meme is on my blog now.
What a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing that with us. I’m posting my responses to your meme on my blog right now!
This past August 16 would have been my mom’s 50th, she’s been gone for almost 16 years now. What if? But our mom’s gave us life, breath, so much more. I try not to regret the loss more than I celebrate the gains.
It took a few days, but I posted your meme to my blog. I hope you’re feeling better, Scout. Moms are one of the hardest things to lose in life, I think. Take care.
Late to the party and far too talkative, but done. (((scout)))
Finally answered your meme, lady.
Better late than never. I’m in.

[...] Scout’s Meme: 1. How and when did you learn how to knit/crochet? Who taught you? My grandmother Josephine taught me to knit decades ago. Sadly, I didn’t stick with it. A few years ago, I got bit by the bug, and lo-and behold, Scout held my hand while I struggled with re-learning to purl. [...]
