So There!

I did it. No problem.

So to anyone who doubted I could pull it off? Thpppt!

Here’s my pretty Calorimetry.

Calorimetry

And hey, I threw in some crow’s feet “wisdom lines” for you to see too! I worked extra hard on those. I used the Manos del Uruguay in color #118. I cast on 100 sts on US #8’s. I did about 10 less short rows and it’s still too big. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I actually followed the pattern! I’m going to make another one with only 80 stitches and even fewer short rows. I’m just going to do the short rows until I get it about half of what I want the total width to be. I think it will only be about 5-6 short rows. I’ll let you know how it comes out. I’m going to make one for Supergirl too. Here are a few other pictures. Luckily, I found this button in my button stash and it matches perfectly.

Lovely! I knit one at 100 st and 12 rows less. I used a worsted weight yarn.
It came out a pretty good size. When I followed the pattern it came out HUGE too.

Very cute! I didn’t doubt you could do it.

I got to meet the yarn harlot this past weekend. I took a class at Madrona Fiber retreat, and she was in the class with me. She’s such a sweetie.

It looks like it fits you in the picture!
Very pretty, I love Manos. I made one too, out of Noro Kureyon, also 100 st cast on,
and mine fits, yay! And what do you know, my 5yr old immediatley said “I want one!”,
so I am also on my 2nd. Although now I am using a heavier yarn (unidentified stash
yarn) and concerned that it looks HUGE.
    Oops!

I’ve made about 12 of these and all of them were done casting on 90 stitches or less. almost all of
them were made using 80 stitches and i just counted the “holes” that were created by the
short rows. When I had 6 holes on each side that is when I started the other side. That worked
really well. if the yarn was a little bulkier i cast on 74 or something like that. On one that i used a finer
guage yarn i cast on 92 or something like that, but none were anymore than that.
Also, one other detail that I added was on the side where i sewed on the button, i added a little one inch
square of felt on the inside to help secure the button and make it more sturdy.
everybody i’ve made them for seems to really like them. they look really cute on everyone.
    yours looks great too!

Love it! I couldn’t resist any longer and cast one on early this AM, can’t wait to finish it later. Sweet! Thanks for mentioning the sticth counts you used, I’m doing an 80 stitch one with 8 short row repeats and that should be perfect for me, a small/medium head and loose-ish knitter.

Mine came out too big as well, but I just hike up the button to a higher YO hole. I think it’s too wide, though, too. Still, I like the concept and it does warm the ears without smashing the curls, so I can’t complain.

I love your daughter’s (in your next post) as well. Cute cute.

Thanks for such a clear photo.
I made two versions of Calorimetry this week, one casting on 88 and one 96 stitches.
Your photos helped me figure out how much to adjust the original pattern.
    take care
