The kids are home today and T. is at work. This means it’s nearly impossible to get any dyeing done. Instead we baked. Both of my kids love to cook with me. How many of you saw this recipe over at Cream Puffs in Venice? I mean, a Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate Chip Marble Cake? Um, helloooooo???? This picture was all I needed to see. Go out and get the ingredients for this cake. Trust me. Or better yet, want to come over for dessert? It’s amazing.
I don’t normally like sweets but the little bit of the dark chocolate layer with the lightly melting white chocolate chips? To. Die. For. I don’t know about you but I’m seduced.
The other sweet part was when Superboy said out of the blue, as he obviously was enjoying the time with me, “Did you cry a lot when your mom died? I mean, for a long time?” I answered, “Yep. I cried a lot.” He thought for a second and said, “I really hope you don’t die until I am much older.” “Me too baby. Me too.” We went on to talk about my mom and how much I used to love cooking with her just like they love cooking with me. Even though I got no work done, I’m glad the three of us just got to hang out and spend time with one another today. Some days just need to be like that don’t they?
Now who’s coming over to eat this cake with me?

How can we read that dialogue between you and SB w/o tearing up? I think I need some cake now.
What a sweetie! I love those moments with kids - they are so honest, and it’s so refreshing sometimes.
That cake looks delish.
The flight from Maine is just a little too long at this time of the night, but thanks for the invite
What a tender moment with your boy; he’s a sensitive one, isn’t he?
If only I lived down the street, I’d be right over!
Guess I’ll be making a cake soon.
I love spending time with my kids. My oldest has asked if I will teach her to knit. I got a little teary eyed reading about you and SB’s conversation. Sounds to me like he’s a great kid who really loves his mama.
I need cake now, you made me have a little river of tears down my cheeks. Your son is the sweetest.Love you guys–I thank you for sharing such a cherished moment.
Awwwwwwwwwwwww…
What kind of milk do you people drink? Yes, it matters. :p
Mmmmmm!! I just made brownies, but that looks yummier.
Weird, we had a very similar conversation a few days ago in the car.
Oh, great. Now I want to bake something! ACK!
Sounds like you had a lovely day.
Damn, if only it was gluten free.
What a sweet thing for Superboy to say - and what a great conversation for you both to have!
we all need the cake after reading about your nice conversation with Superboy. Really sweet boy.
Aww how sweet! Man I dunno know how you held it together without bursting into
tears! I think I need a little cake time too! Perhaps later, my sister is coming over
I think I’ll stop by Tullys shop for some coffee and cake:) Hopefully it will be half as
good as the one you made:)
Oh, that is the BEST kind of day. And a statement like Superboy’s? The BEST. And you already knew that.
But cherish them.
You already knew that, too. XOXO
what a sweet way to spend the day (no pun intended) and the bonding with the superboy? that’s like the icing on the cake (again, no pun intended).
You made me cry. I want cake.
I want some cake! That looks delicious.
What a sweet kid you have.
Oh Superboy. I love him.
Also, pass the cake, yo. That looks freaking awesome.
That cake looks awesome! SB is very grown up for his age! Glad you all had a great day!
Scout,
That is so sweet! Your cake looks amazing and I’m just so glad that you introduced yourself as I’m now able to read your blog which is fantastic! I love the layout!!!
He! Hands off my cake!!! Just kidding! I feel special she made for me but I feel even more special being part of this great blogging community. You have a great site and wonderful children.
OMG!!! I think I gained weight just looking at that cake! I can cook fantastic but I s.u.c.k at baking. Looks DANG good!
And the little boy mom comment, made me mist up good. I lost my mom almost two years ago, sucks big time.
Awww! What a sweet boy.
Awwwwwww! What a great kid! And the cake looks killer!
Sweet kid, sweet cake…
I’d be over for cake in a heartbeat if I lived anywhere near you, or knew you, or anything. I’ll have to save the recipe for later, though, because I don’t think eating a cake like that all by myself is a good idea.
I want to fly right down to eat cake and hug Superboy. What an absolute angel for being so sensitive and sweet. This is so much
more important than dusting or vacuuming.
Yum! I think my little one & I will have to try that recipe. Your little ones are great!!!
I’ve printed that one, I have to make a cake this weekend for my midwife’s annual Chocolate Party. Perfect.
I don’t know if you know my history at all, but I had cancer almost two years ago. Reading things like the exchange between you and your son make me cry! (although it probably would have even if I never had cancer!) I am sad that my kids had to know what that is like to be afraid like that, and I am sad that you lost your mom. It makes me happy that you are so open to talk about it with your son, and with us.
The cake looks amazing, and I would love it if I lived close enough to come over and have some!
OMG! I just said to DH on Sunday, I’ve a
hankering for a bundt cake, he wrinkled his nose,
but I have fond memories of them…
Must try the recipe.
holycrap! yum!!
When and if I ever go to Albuquerque, I will bring sandwiches if you make that cake. Absolutely divine!
Oh, Scout. I’m crying just a bit. Thank you for sharing that bit about you and Superboy. You have such great kids, and they are lucky to have such an amazing mom!
Also? Cake is making me drool. Must. Have. CAKE!
Any left?
That’s lovely - it is nice that you got to connect with the two of them.
