Saturday Sky

Don’t let the pretty blue sky fool you today. We’re having some crazy wind right now which makes it very unpleasant to leave the house. I took a few shots near my house of a few things that make me happy.

This is in front of our local fire station. I drive by it every day and I just love it. You know what else I love? The fact that this is going in right by my house.

For those of you who don’t know, the Flying Star Cafe is a local Albuquerque chain. You can read more about them over on their website. We will be spending lots of time there once it opens. Free wireless, tons of magazines you’re allowed to look through while you sit, great food and the most amazing desserts. And I don’t even do sweets. I do Flying Star sweets though. Can you say raspberry-peach pie?

UPDATE on Carole’s Todd. He is still in the hospital and will probably be there until Monday. He was not responding well to the first few rounds of antibiotics and they were worried they needed to go in and debride the infection. His fever is finally gone so for now, the Infectious Disease Specialist says they will hold off on surgery for now since it’s getting better even though it looks worse. They put in a PICC Line in yesterday as he will need to be on IV antibiotics for the next month. Yes, at least a month. Carole will be the lucky person who gets to learn how to flush out a PICC line and administer the antibiotics. She and Todd want everyone to know they truly appreciate all of your well wishes. Keep him in your thoughts as he’s still not 100% out of the woods. I’m going to see her in a bit if anyone wants to pass along a message.

Wind, yuck! We had major bad wind yesterday and the day before….thought my girls was going to blow away in it. :) Hold on to Supergirl and Superboy. I love the statues in front of the fire station and the flying star sounds like a great place to go. Wished there was something like that here. I don’t know Carole and Carole doesn’t know me but tell her that her and Todd are in my thoughts and give her Big Hugs! :)

I love that statue. I think the skies are still blue here, but we’d never know because of the ubiquitous cloud cover. Thank you for the update
on Carole’s husband. I don’t know them, but my heart goes out to them and I wish them strength in overcoming this. Stay safe out of the wind.

Best wishes to Todd and Carole. My then 6 year-old had a bad case of salmonella and he
came home from the hopistal with a PICC line. It turned out to be OK to flush it and do the
antibiotic. Tell them not to worry about that part.

Let Carole know that the whole PICC line is really not difficult. I had a niece that was on a PICC line for the past 7 years. Just keep the area clean and flush as needed. All will be well.

I am glad to read an update. I was wondering what was happening.
Tell Carole that I am thinking about her and her family. And give her a huge hug from me.

Bummer about Todd - my brother had an evil infection a few years ago and was on IV antibiotics for a month or two - home healthcare visits every day.

I’ve been to Flying Star before! :)

If a PICC line is anything like a CVL, I wish her luck — not that they’re hard to deal with, really, but all the time Taz had one I was petrified that it would get infected. I was just on her blog leaving her my good wishes.

Your sky and your yarn are gorgeous.

We had that same awful wind yesterday. It came in with a fogging layer of dust and dirt. We couldn’t see much in front of us.

Give Carole and Todd my best. I’m sending good well wishes their way! :(

My next door neighbor had to do this for her husband who has been battling staph infection. She has managed fine but doesn’t love the bandage changes. Best wishes to Carole and Todd.

I love Flying Star! Albuquerque has the best food! I love the salad with the goat cheese and oranges. The desserts are sooooo good. It would be dangerous having one close the house. Maybe next time in Albuquerque we could get some coffee there. :)

I wish you could’ve known the Flying Star back in the day when it was Double Rainbow and only had one location (downtown.) They were infinitely better (if you can even imagine that.) Then they expanded, changed their name, went downhill, and painted over the flying saucer on the ceiling.

Totally off topic. Have you ever knit SuperGirl socks? If so, what pattern did you use? I want to make a pair of socks for myself and a dear friend’s adorable daughter who’s 8 (the colorway is so her). Thanks!

The raspberry-peach pie at Flying Star is my favorite raspberry-peach pie in the whole world!
