She’s Officially 5

Okay, well not really until 5:15pm but close enough right? My baby is 5. My little Pisces fish born in the water is not such a baby anymore. I still can’t believe in just a few short months she’ll be getting on the bus with her brother to go to Kindergarten. I now have an 8 & 5 year old. It just amazes me I have such big kids.

I love this little girl something fierce. I don’t know if it’s because I lost my own mother or not but I feel like we have an extra special bond. I love teaching her all of the things my mother taught me. It is how I keep my mother alive. When I ask her to cook or bake with me and I see the excitement in her eyes I remember what it was like to do those same things with my mother. When I tell her that she can grow up to do whatever she wants I mean it. My favorite thing about her lately is how she refers to herself as Supergirl. “Supergirl is going to do really well in soccer today! Are you talking about Supergirl? Supergirl isn’t afraid!” This girly just makes me laugh.

In a little bit we are headed to Whole Foods to pick out chocolate covered strawberries for her special snack at Pre-K. Yeah, whatever happened to cupcakes or cookies? Nope. Supergirl knows what she likes. And hell, she’s got good taste. Here is a little collage of Supergirl through the years. I think every year I will continute this tradition. I love looking at all of these images next to each other.

I love my little girl so much. I’m truly proud to be her mother. I’d like to think that wherever my mom is, she thinks her granddaughter is pretty damn amazing and it pisses her off that she doesn’t get to tell her in person. And now I just made myself cry so I have to stop this post. Some days it just hits me out of the blue and I guess today is one of those days. I miss my mom. Dammit.

*** She loves her custom Splink Supergirl too. And that’s a new Uglydoll. His name is Wage and he’s best friends with Babo. I think she’s bringing them both to school with her for share day***

    Wow, blogs can make you cry. I lost my Mom this past August. It is so hard and I miss her so much. She taught me so much, I think of her and all the afghans she made me, everytime I pick up my Ripple Blanket. Baking, Knitting, Crochet and housecleaning! What would we have ever done without them. I am so proud and blessed to be able to pass these things on to my daughter. Thanks for such a touching entry. Diana

    Happy Birthday, SuperGirl! Isn’t it amazing how kids look like themselves from Day 1? There’s no mistaking who that baby is!

    My mom is still alive (thank God) but has what seems to be early(?) Alzheimers and so is just a shadow of her former self. I’m surprised by grief at times over the loss of the mother I knew, so I can only imagine what your loss feels like. God Bless ya, Scout. SuperGirl is lucky to have you as her mom. And you are doing your mom no greater honor than teaching all those things to your daughter. :-)
