Eye AND Stomach Candy

Big birthday bash tonight for Supergirl. She invited a few school friends and some neighbors over and somehow over 50 people are coming. So much for trying to make it easier by not doing a kid party this year. Oh well. It will be fun. One of her presents was this:

cake

She is going to freak out when she sees it even though she completely designed it. It’s even better than I could have imagined. We got it from the best cake shop in town. She brought in a plate from Oriental Trading Company and told them exactly what she wanted. She asked for white and chocolate cake with a Bavarian creme filling. When they asked what she wanted it to say she said, “Happy Birthday Supergirl!” (She didn’t want her real name on it) That’s my girl. She knows what she wants when she wants it. Huh. I wonder where she gets all that sass? So far this morning I’ve already made pinto beans in the crockpot, worked out, gotten the cake, been to Costco and picked up the Enchiladas. I still need to ship a few packages and hit Trader Joe’s to pick up a few final things. I might actually have my shit together and I still have about 5.5 hours until people arrive. I think more caffeine is in order first. I like being completely ready and organized before everyone gets to my house or I’m too stressed out to have fun. I also want to say Happy Birthday to my mom. She would have been 59 today. I keep forgetting that my birthday is next week too. I also thought I was already 37 but won’t be 37 until Thursday. What happens to us when we get so old we forget exactly how old we are!? I think I’ve been telling people for the past year I was 37 and I was 36. I’m such a moron.
I’m out. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Good luck with the party! I bet it feels like you missed 36, huh? Honestly, I did that when I was 26 - I thought I was 27 all year…then I actually turned 27 and realized I missed 26! It must be those 6’s… :)

You’re exactly 20 years younger than I. The cake is priceless! SG is going to LOVE it. You can’t think about your own birthday as you’re running 90 miles an hour for her…next week will be ALL yours!;-)

I know exactly what you mean about forgetting how old you are, i do it all the time!

I’ll say, “I’m 37.” and Deb will look at me with *that* look and say, “I’M 37! You’re 38!”

LOL!! Good thing she knows or i’d be so lost. Heh! Only 38 for a bit longer anyway. ;)

Haha, my Mom is always forgetting her age too. It cracks me up! And ABC Cake Shop? YUM! My Mom has been buying our birthday cakes there since we were little kids. They’re pretty much the requirement for a successful birthday celebration IMO. Hope the party goes well, it sounds like it’ll be a blast!

What a girl! The cake is beautiful. I’m the same way about my age, it’s like I’m a horse, I turn the year over January 1, even though my birthday isn’t until February. Sounds like you will all have a lot of fun! Enjoy.

    VERY.COOL.CAKE!!!

I have been doing that same thing — I’ve been saying I’m 48 for most of the past year. I’m not 48 until July of THIS year. I guess it has become irrelevant.

Happy “it would have been your Mom’s birthday.” I know how much you are missing her.

awesome cake - but 50 people! yipes!
I age myself too. I think for a while I said I was 35 and i’m only 33. duh. If I’m going to age myself I should just say I’m 50 and then at least people would tell me I look young for my age.

My husband does the same thing….he always thinks he is older than he actually is. It may have something to do with being born in a year ending with a zero…..when the year changes, you just think you are a year older! Oh well….Happy early birthday!!!! And Happy Birthday to Supergirl! That is the way to do it……party all week long!

The cake is fab. I, too, am constantly forgetting how old I am. Is that a sign of old age or of denial?

Awesome Cake! Let them eat cake! I am sure you will all have a blast tonight!
Oh and I can relate the forgetting your age thing. When I was 25 or 27 I had a
meltdown one day when I couldn’t figure out how old I was and how old I was getting.
I must have been in denial or something.

36-38 are odd ages. Like you, it was the first time in my life when I couldn’t remember how old I was. It was even a little scary. I mean, I thought, “You must truly be getting old if you can’t recall your own age. Oh my, it must be all downhill from here.” At 42, nearly 43, I can testify that 39’s where the forgetting factor fails. 39 is a milestone age for most people, so suddenly it gets easy to remember, and all is again well with the world. It’s strange, this weird agelessness that appears for a short while after 35. I say, enjoy this strange gift of the universe, and whenever someone asks your age during this period, tell them whatever age you feel at that moment.

Today is my mom’s birthday too! The cake is perfect and I hope you all have a wonderful time. I’ll bet your mom will be there leaning over SG’s
shoulder helping her blow out all of those candles, even if nobody sees her. I’ll turn 40 this summer. I’m really bummed. I could care less about the
wrinkles, etc., it’s just that statistically my life is more than half over and there is so much left to do that I feel pressed for time!
