[...] With all of my recent gallivanting, I was informed by Scout, that I need a cellphone… Hahaha. Some months it is all I can do to keep regular land line service. I would be terribly dangerous with a cell. I’m a talker once I get going. Speaking of Scout, she asked me to co-judge her latest contest. Aye, ask an aspiring Buddhist to be a judge, why don’t ya. It is hard… Carole’s Post?, Norma’s Limerick? or This picutre from Literate Knits? (I love it super duper muchly since they are knitting!) Anyway, I think I have a few hours left to decide where my vote goes. Sheesh, I hate casting judgment on others! [...]

Hi Scout! Such a cool idea for a contest. I didn't write a limerick...or get here in time. But you got me thinking, so I brought you something else (a little prezzie for thinking up such a cool contest idea):

Pink sun winks down, smiles,
and sleeps. Moon, green with envy,
turns its yellow cheek.

Thanks for the laughs! The entries are great. I'd forgotten all about the pink-green-yellow preppie thing...eeek!

Scout's holding a contest, it's true
And to win it all you have to do
Is recall preppy phases
From your high school dayses
And dig up a picture or two

Now because I'm a true fiber whore
With a stash that could fill a small store
I climbed to the attic,
a feat acrobatic
For photos which might earn me more

Pictures were tossed in a flurry
Yearbooks perused in a hurry
But pink yellow and green
Were not to be seen
And so I began to worry

Brown loafers with penny
Collars flipped to my chinny
And argyle vests there were none
Pleated skirts were all missing
From my reminiscing
For preppy clothes I did shun

Wearing black head to toe
And a sneer apropos
My teenage self glared back at me
I recalled my Mom's warning
"Don't dress like in mourning
Or certainly sorry you'll be!"

I scoffed at her then
That squawking old hen
For what could she possibly know
Following the path
Of Steinbeck and Plath
My life promised nothing but woe

Brooding was ended, and color returned
As life became pleasant once more
Red, yellows and blues
Green and pink hues
joy I no longer abhor

But three girls of my own
Make me shudder and groan
As I recall my own Mother's curse.
May you have kids like you
All mopey and blue
In fact, I hope they act worse!

Not winning this prize should be payment enough
For the headaches I caused both my parents
But I know it's too late to cheat payback fate
My kids will all be malcontents

Sarah R, you are seriously my limericking hero!

Here's my answer to the challenge...
-----
Silence your inner fat-hater,
and consider that bigger is greater!
Green, yellow and pink
are prettiest, I think,
on an ass that's as big as a freighter.

I just added some happy photos to my blog. I'm not so ashamed of my PINK clothes. In fact, I may seek some new ones out.

I can only hope that quantity can make up for quality because I was catholic schoolgirl so I have a multitude of pictures of myself in various preppy outfits including pleated skirts and knee socks and polos and oxfords oh my! I can't decide whether the best one is the one of me in uniform as the captain of the math league, or else if it's the one of me as president of the knitting club, or just the one of me celebrating because school, and therefore uniforms was over.

Goodness, I should take time to scan old photos. Just last week the kiddos dug out an old album from my High School days. There's one of me wearing this hot pink one piece outfit with large daisy flowers each with different color centers...and I made it myself. In H.S. I was quite the sewer. I also had a red/black pleated plaid skirt with a black vest that had matching welt pockets...again...I made it. And I wore a navy plaid skirt with navy v-neck chashmere sweater...I looked like a catholic school girl...and I didn't go to the catholic H.S. Go figure that I would choose these clothes myself. In college, my favorite outfit was a pair of pink gingham overalls. Not as preppy as penny loafers...but oh, so girly. This year, during St. Patrick's Day week, I realized just how much I liked my kelly green Tommy polo. I washed that over and over...to wear it 3 times...to each of the kiddo's parties. I think if "the preppy" is in your blood, then it never goes away

Not one to resist a challenge...
________

With an ass as wide as a freighter,
You'd think she'd chose clothes some sedater,
Striped yellow, pink, green
She looks like the Queen
of Spring....along ALL the equator.
