It was touch and go for a while there……just kidding. I only felt like throwing up for the first 25 minutes of the show and once the crazy shaking and adrenaline wore off I was able to actually watch the last 5 minutes of the show without feeling sick. It’s just weird to see yourself on TV. Even Vickie told me last night she felt sick watching herself for the first 20 or so shows. At least my Master’s in Education and seven years of teaching paid off. I kind of sounded like I knew what I was talking about! Anyway, I’m glad it’s over. I appreciate all of the words of encouragement yesterday. It made me feel a lot better. Even Vickie gave me props on her blog. Thank YOU!
I have had a number of emails about where to find Scout’s Ghetto Warping Board instructions as DIY didn’t get it up on the website yet. I made a new page for it here with the warping instructions at the bottom. People have also been asking for the pattern of the head wrap I was wearing seen below.
This is a free pattern from the talented Wendy of Knit & Tonic. It’s called the Dream Scarf Head Wrap and you can find the pdf file here. I would like to publically thank the knitters again who helped me with all of the swag for the show. Molly knit the headwrap and Cookie knit two of the socks seen on the show. I actually made the one with the stripes from the warping board. There are many others who knit for the show so a big thank you again to all of you. There is no way I would have been able to do it all myself.
I got some screen shots from the show to share that are up in my Knitty Gritty Flickr Set. Here are just a few of my favorites. If you’ve seen the show already, you can just ignore the rest of the post. Hey look! I’m on the Knitty Cam! No mangled cuticles!
And yes folks, I not only showed how to dye yarn and reskein it, I also did a bit of knitting too. I don’t recall Vickie referring to the belt buckle as a bit of *razzle dazzle* but again, I don’t remember saying “handy dandy” either. I think an alien replaced me for a few minutes because I don’t think I’ve ever said that before in my entire 37 years on this planet. Here’s Vickie showing off the razzle dazzle.
And these two pictures are from my favorite part of the show. They really wanted me to show you how to put the yarn into a skein with my foot but I was worried that might scare some people off so I told her to just give me her finger. Ha! We thought this was so funny. Hey, it was late. It didn’t take much.
And that’s it folks. I’m thinking it might re-air in a few weeks. The one that aired last Monday has a re-air date 16 days later. I’ll let you know if I hear anything. Time to get to the emails. I have been gone most of the day and I need to play catch-up. Ot take a nap? Thursday is Shobhana! Friday is John! YAY! I can’t wait to see their shows.

Very cool! I’m sorry I couldn’t see it, I knew it would be great.
I haven’t seen the show yet but a friend has. She liked it and thought it was really good. She Tivoed it for me so I will be watching it. And we are knitters, how could you freak us out?
BTW, I love the Cherry Mash colors!!!!
I’d love to catch the rerun. Reskeining yarn is still a big mystery to me - and you showed me your big toe trick too!
As I said, great job :o) I have it saved on the TiVo so if you want it on DVD just let me know ;o)
You’re just so cute.
Hey! How are your nails doing these days?
I just watched the show (I DVRed it) and it was great! I loved the handy dandy and the razzle dazzle. I saved it so I can refer back to it when I finally get around to using the big girl dyes I bought almost a year ago.
I told you before but it bears repeating - you did great!
I watched the show last night. I thought you did an awesome job and I learned a bunch. Now that I know how much work goes into your yarn, I’ll appreciate it even more.
I stayed up late to watch it last night (TiVo’d it) and I was so excited the whole time because YOU. WERE. AWESOME! I’m not a huge fan of the show…but yours was so engaging and educational and useful!
Way to go!
I DVR’ed the show, so I watched it today. I thought you were awesome - you were well-spoken and knowledgeable, and seemed very comfortable. Yay!
Plus, that head scarf looked absolutely fab on you.
Nice manicure!
I watched it this afternoon….thank you DVR.
You were awesome. I’ll be saving this one so I can refer back to it for tips when I finally get around to dying some yarn.
You did a great job. I had always wondered how the reskeining happened. Now I know. Loved the show!!
So I just finished watching and really, You Rock! I may actually get up my nerve
and dye some yarn. And it will be YOUR FAULT. (this is what I will tell DH).
You are totally famous. So. Cool.
Good Job. When are you going to do it again?
Awww yeaaaaaaaaah!
I can’t wait to see it
Well…I’ll say it again…you did a great job….the tips you shared are just great and appreciated…I dye yarn but they just don’t come out looking like your stuff does lol….so I much rather get it from you lol..If you hadn’t said you were nervous I wouldn’t have been able to tell……you are great!
You were very good! Some of the guests on Knitty Gritty seem kind of 2 dimensional, but you were articulate, to the point and entertaining!
Now I’m going to *have* to dye some of my own yarn and make a head wrap out of it;) Thanks!
Dude. You are the bizomb. But you know that already. xo
You looked great and I loved the show! I printed out the dye info from DIY and, as soon as we’re moved I plan doing a dye job myself! Thanks for the inspiration!
You rock! Congratulations.
You ought to be
doin your OWN show! So cool and collected like you are on every day of the week. No worrys, you did good. Thanks for
being in my little contest!
I have to wait until it airs in HGTV…dratss. You look beautiful in your pictures here so I know it was a great show.
YES! So exciting to see it again on your blog! You did sooo good!
I especially loved the scientific glug, glugs!
I wish I had DIY and could have seen it…I’m sure you were fantastic!!
Look how adorable you look! So chic! Sadly, we don’t get the DIY network
I’m bummed.
Admit it, you were awesome! You are the whole reason I started dyeing in the first place, I started with the Dye-o-rama last year. You didn’t seem nervous at all. I was glug, glugging in my kitchen this morning with the kids and some kool-aid dyeing gone somewhat bad. Back to the acid dyes! Again, you rock. Thanks for making it all look so easy!
You look awesome! Please do let us know when/if it re-airs so I can track down a friend with DIY channel.
I just got done watching the episode and I wanted to congratulate you on the fantastic job you did! Really, truly, amazing. You looked so pretty and sounded so great. Love your voice. Hooray!
You did awesome. You didn’t puke all over Vickie like I would have! You sounded confident and clear and didn’t talk too fast or anything. Great job!!!
Woo! I can’t wait to see it.
You were fabulous, Scout! Truly!
That’s terrific! Have to find someone around here who Tivoed it.
YAY!! I’m glad you feel better about it all now. I can’t wait to see it. Vikkie taped it and we’re going to watched it sometime in the near future. Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!
*HUGS*
Everytime I loook at you on that show I am somehow seeing Angelina Joile, I think it’s your eyes. AND NO I am not blowing smoke up your ass & NO I am not drunk, does anyone else see this?
I luved your show Scout! I was so inspired that I immediately broke out the easter egg dyes and tried to dye me some yarn. Now everytime I wrap my skeins in plastic wrap, I’ll think of a burrito.
goddamn! I think my parents even have that channel and I’m here! I missed it. damn damn damn.
I think there’s one of your ghetto warping boards in my future! I do have a question…am I seeing correctly that when you’re wrapping from top to bottom that you are skipping two of the pairs of pins? And crossing the yarn on the pairs that you do go around? How come?
I haven’t done any projects from that book yet, as I hadn’t really got it into my head on how to manage such a large skein. Now that I do, I want to order up some nice sock-weight and dye away!
So…the real question is…
How did you manage to go the whole time without cussin’ a blue streak!?
And I’m so bummed I live in bumblef*ck backwoods. We don’t even *get* cable here, much less DIY. Know of anywhere I could get me a copy on DVD?
oh, and p.s.:
Now that you’re famous and all?
Wanna sign my boobs? I’ve got sharpies!
You did a great job, really knowledgeable and you looked great too! It really makes me want to give dyeing a try! Do you also have instructions for the “handy-dandy” re-skeiner too? And a dumb question, everyone says not to use your dyeing tools for food prep - does that include the microwave?
i don’t get that channel
you looked super cute though!!
i hate reskeining too. how do you get your hubby to do it? do you trick him? promise him things? withhold things?? i’ve gotta get my hubby reskeining for me too.
hooray for survivng - now I want to see it
I loved the show and have done a little free hand dyeing. Now I am very intrigued by the warp board and just may have to figure that out!
Congrats! I haven’t been able to catch the show yet (stupid work) but I’m to get someone to TiVo it for me! You looked great!
Not the most important kudos after such a big moment in your life, but you looked absolutely GORGEOUS! We don’t get DIY, so I am limiting my comment to the pics you posted here. Congrats.
I meant to ask you the source of your
really cool necklace on the show. More
Scout’s swag???
I MUST know when it reairs. I don’t have cable, so I’ll have to ask my boyfriend or my boyfriend’s mom to tape it for me. =D Such fun!
It was great!!! I watch knitty gritty late at night and by bf tends to ignore it. He too, was sucked into the show and was in total awe of the dyeing and reskeining process.
Great job Scout!!
oh yes… one more thing.. the yarn burrito? LOVED it!
Saw the show today and that settles it. I’m going to dye some yarn. Where do I get the big girl dye at and is KnitPicks the only place to go to get “bare” yarn without having to spin it yourself? Yes, this is a real post and I truly am that clueless….need. your. help.
Scout, you were fabulous on Knitty Gritty! I really enjoyed the episode, and I was thrilled to see how you reskein the yarn. It has always been a mystery to me, but now it’s not! Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
Your episode was one of the best I’ve seen. Congratulations!! I’m so inspired to dye some yarn now!
Ahhhh! That is very cool Scout! I don’t have that channel but your pictures are great and you looks so good and your smile is so pretty! Yay, you!! [I love the comment that asks if you will sign her boobs - haa haa haa!]
Hey You! You can’t imagine what I went through at my parents to try to get DIY! I even wen’t so far as to trying to bribe a supervisor at Comcast……I told him “I just NEED to Watch this show!” I begged and pleaded…..I wanted to watch it so badly and was soooo bummed my parents didn’t get that channel!!! PLease let us know when they run it again……………You look great in those pics……..totally!
I sooo wanted to see it, but I don’t have DIY. You look great in the pictures here.
Way to go super star! You look fab!
Yay! Look at your pretty nails! I’m glad you were able to finally enjoy watching the episode, I love that you have screen shots.
You look fantastic. I’m afraid I’ll need a bucket should I ever encounter my own episode. So scary.
Oh, I’m so sorry I missed your big moment! I planned on watching and then somehow the day got away from me. Let us know when it does come back on. What fun.
Oh wow! You sound like you did great. Sadly, we probably won’t see your moment of fame here in the UK.
I saw the show and it was wonderful!
Thank you so so very much for sharing your talent
and time with us!
You rock!
I am uuuubber excited to dye some socky yarn.
;0)

I’m so upset with DIY for changing the Knitty Gritty show time! I am not able to watch the show at 2PM during the week! Hopefully, they will show the shows again, on some weekends!
I’ve “heard” you were great - I never doubted you would be!
Hey! I just caught the show on my DVR last night - you looked fab!!
Great job!

I’m so upset I missed your episode. I was away on Spring Break at the time. Please do keep us posted so that I can catch the next airing!
We don’t get DIY, I’ll have to wait until HGTV shows it. They’re not showing any new season episodes yet.
I found your website by looking for hand-dyeing techniques in blogland. Then I read you were going to be on Knitty Gritty. I had long ago given up on that show. It seemed to be all beginner projects and always the same ideas. In order not to miss you, I started taping the show. I’m really glad I did. You were terrific!
