Scout's Knitted Swag

Eye Candy Friday!

Shhh. Just a teeny bit early. It makes my Friday morning a lot smoother to do this the night before. Cynthia and I already collaborated to give you the July calendars! We couldn’t narrow it down to two again so you get three. Just click on the picture you want, right click and save as a desktop wallpaper. Please let us know which one you like the best!

Potluck Post!

Oh this will be a ramble so just hang in there okay? Let’s see. First of all, I’m going to give a little fake peek to the Indie Swag Club members. Just like last time, these are NOT the colors of the yarn but I wanted to tease you a little bit before you get your packages. They will probably go out on Thursday. I finished the dyeing and now they just need to dry, be labeled and packaged up with the swag. It’s fun messing the colors up on the yarn to conceal it’s identity! And I know, doesn’t the imposter look pretty!?

swag imposter

I don’t feel like it’s spoiling it to tell you a little bit about this months swag. Because hey, it’s my club and I can do what I want right!? (Didn’t I say this with month 1? ha!) This month’s swag has been almost a year in the making. Seriously. It is a pattern by Cookie A. Yes. You read that right. Cookie A. THE Cookie A. Pomatomus Cookie. Monkey Cookie. Are you with me now?!?! And, it’s amazing. Ohhhhhh just wait. She also designed the colorway that goes with the pattern. You can’t really tell but it’s a semi-solid that doesn’t look anything like the one above. It’s gorgeous. I’ll shut up now. But really!!! I’ll show the yarn and the pattern next week once everyone has received it. Patience my dearies.

Within the next two weeks Scout’s Swag will be completely restocked. Pretty much everything that is low or sold out right now should be up in the shop between June 28th & July 10th or so. Even the Haiku Bags! In a few days I will also show you a few new things I’m thinking of getting and I’d like your feedback. If you are not signed up for the newsletter at the shop, and want to be among the first to know when the shop is stocked, go sign up as a customer. I don’t send many emails but I do send them to my customers first. I will also be taking yarn orders again after July 1st and adding a few new colorways to the gallery too.

Finally, I wanted to give a shout-out to a new podcast I finally got to listen to today. Have you checked out Knitters Uncensored? Click the link. I will wait. Okay. Did you go? Download their podcast/s. I listened to all three episodes today while dyeing and I absolutely loved listening to them. They are funny, and Elemm’s accent is to die for! I have to say that I like a podcast that actually talks about other things than yarn. I mean, they talk about knitting, don’t get me wrong! But there’s other stuff too. I know that everyone looks for different things in a podcast but if you’re looking for a new fun one, definitely check them out. The other two podcasters are Ms. B/Bockstark Knits and Cashyie/Cashmacrylic. They all live in Germany now even though none of them are from there. Just go listen. I’m not telling you anything else! Many of you probably know of them already but I thought they deserved a mention from me since they kept me company while I dyed today. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them and can’t wait to hear the next one. Hurry up you guys! You hear me?

I’m totally fried. I think I need a beer. Peace OUT!

Have a great weekend everyone

And The Winners Are?!

The only person to guess the correct number was Theresa. The correct number was 89. Some of you are nutso! I dye a few hundred skeins each month but this month I’ve tried to limit it with the three weeks of company. In the contest rules I said you could not go over so there were four others who guessed 88. The other winner, picked by Supergirl, is Limedragon! Can you two please send me your addresses and I will mail off your new skeins of Kill Bill. The bad-ass powers shall become yours within 2-3 days!Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone for playing. I think I need to do contests more often.

For anyone who missed it last time, my Knitty Gritty show airs today at 2:00pm EST on the DIY Network. If you want to laugh at me for being the biggest dork ever, set your Tivo’s and check it out. Seriously!

Just a reminder that I’m not going to be taking any new yarn orders until July 1st. I have to get this Indie Swag out and a bunch of other orders before I can take on anything more. Plus, one of my best friends is coming down for the weekend from Steamboat Springs to meet me for the night in Santa Fe which means I lose two more days this weekend to dyeing. I won’t complain about this though since just the two of us are staying at Hotel Santa Fe for the night. I forsee cocktails by the pool and adult coversation for a good solid 24 hours without anyone needing anything from me except for maybe another drink order. Maybe I’ll be able to also sleep past 5:15am which is when the boy woke me up this morning. Isn’t that lovely!? /sarcasm.

Off to fill out the dye board for the day. It’s been so hot I don’t know how long I can actually stay outside working today. Dyeing yarn in 100° weather is not a lot of fun. I’m off. Time to fuel up on caffeine and git going.

Kill Bill - The Contest

**The contest is over! There was ONE person who got the number right and four others who guessed the next closest number. I will use the random name generator for the second skein and announce the two winners in the morning!**

Thanks to Natalie’s comment in my post the other day I decided it was time for a new colorway. I give you - Kill Bill. Inspired by this image.

And one more to see the yarn in a little bit different light.

Thank you Amy for the top picture. She helped me take the picture and come up with the contest. Amy rocks if I haven’t already said it. Tomorrow we get to have a dyeing party. Otherwise known as, Amy will help me work. Suckah! This yarn will be available in the shop July 1st.

Here is the contest. Guess how many skeins of yarn I have to dye in the next two weeks and win a skein of this new colorway. This total number includes the Indie Swag yarn too. The two closest people without going over or the two who get the number right win a skein of the yarn. If more than two get the right answer then I’ll do the random number generator thingy. Make sense? You have until Wednesday at 8:00pm MST to comment. Only one guess per person.

Ready? Go. You know you want the first ever skein of Kill Bill. It will bring you magical powers. Bad-ass powers!

Revenge is sweet,

The Black Mamba

**I see that Sweet Georgia has a Kill Bill as well but seeing as mine looks quite a bit different I’m going to keep the name.**

Zulugrass + www.knitty.com = ZuluKnitty

Ever since Amy knew she would be coming to stay with me she’s asked to have a dye party. We hunted down some 100% silk yesterday at Village Wools and Amy showed me her selection of Zulugrass she wanted in her own colorway. When I showed her the final skein she literally gasped. She was beyond ecstatic. That’s when I knew I got it right. ZuluKnitty will be a new colorway in the shop as of July 1st. It can be ordered in any of the fibers I carry AND I also ordered some 100% silk too!!  That should be here within 2 weeks.  However, I’m not taking any yarn orders until then so I can catch up with what I have to do this month. (remember that little contest?) It was almost bedtime last night before we realized we didn’t have a single picture of the two of us together. Therefore the ethereal glow action in Photoshop became my best friend for this shot. For any woman over the age of 30, ethereal glow can be your friend too. For free!

We had such a great time and even after three straight weeks of having company, I’m sad to see her go. It was fun to have someone else around who knows all the same dorky things I do. I can’t tell you how much time we spent sharing all of our cool internet finds with one another. It would go something like this, “Have you ever heard of XYZ? WHAT!? It’s the coolest thing EVER!” Repeat about 500 times. So yeah, Amy Singer is good peeps.

I also wanted to let you know that not only are all GoKnit Pouches stocked but I got two new colors in the large size too. I now have the large GoKnit in red & navy.

Also….I believe there is only ONE right person so far in the contest. You still have over 24 hours to guess if you haven’t yet. Please do not comment again if you have already. Some of you are seriously nutso. You do remember I have two small children a husband and other things I do beside dye yarn right? I probably spend about 1-2 hours a day just packaging up other Swag orders! I think I’d have to dye 24 hours a day for two weeks straight to hit some of those crazy numbers you’ve guessed!! Too funny. It’s been making me laugh so keep them coming. Speaking of Swag ….. I need to go mail some!

Saturday Sky with Amy Singer!

Let me give you a Saturday Sky picture first. Two years ago we planted three trumpet vines and now they almost completely cover my back wall. They are amazing. They are also just about to bloom. Pretty huh?

trumpet vines

Amy Singer’s in the hizzaouse! She arrived on Thursday and taught her Tuscany Shawl class yesterday at Village Wools. Have you seen this shawl? Um. Look.

shawl

She did this one in Hand Maiden Silken in the colorway Vintage. Isn’t it beautiful? If you want the pattern you have to get the book - No Sheep For You. Buy it now! She’s good people. We’ve been having such a good time. The only problem is that she’s a very bad influence. She likes to shop. She likes to show me cool stuff. She has cool stuff. Which made me BUY cool stuff. Damn her. Have you ever heard of Zulugrass?

zulu

Can you tell which one of us lives in Albuquerque and which one lives in Toronto? Ha! But seriously. I am completely in love. You need to go to the website to read all about it. If you buy Zulugrass you are helping support Maasai women. Plain and simple. My kids stole two of mine yesterday so I promised to let them each pick one out today. I love that they are hand dyed too. Just beautiful.

We are about to head out to the Farmer’s Market before she teaches her class today. Scout’s Swag is well stocked and I just got in a whole new shipment of tape measures and GoKnit Pouches! I hope you have a great weekend everyone because I sure plan on it!

Early Eye Candy

I would like to thank all of you who commented on the last post and/or sent me an email. I love you all! It’s nice knowing I have a whole bunch of peeps who have my back.

Amy Singer arrives in just a few hours so I’m posting my Eye Candy today because I know I’ll be busy tomorrow. I’m so excited to meet her in person and hang out with her. I’ve known her for so long it seems. This Eye Candy belongs to Debbie O’Neill. She’s going to make a sweater out of Snowbunny and the matching blue in the colorway. BTW - check out her design here at the bottom of the page. Isn’t that beautiful? She got picked as one of the top designers of this contest! I love how this yarn turned out and can’t wait to see the sweater she makes.

You get an extra one today because I love it so much.

magic light

This was taken the other night at the magic time of night where the sun turns all of the houses the most amazing colors. I’ve been trying to get a good reflection shot forever. I am so happy with this one.

I’m off to answer a trillion and a half emails. The shop has been crazy busy this week. I also got back in all of the Kritter Cases if you were wanting a Hippo! I hope each and every one of you have a fantastic weekend. Wait. Except rude people who like to spread rumors. HA!

Takin’ care of business

I don’t angry very often and after receiving an email today I’m furious. If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ve probably never seen me really go off. Today you’re going to see it. Do you know what I hate? Rumors. Especially when they are rumors about me. Even more so when it may affect my business. If you have read on a blog somewhere that I am going to stop dyeing yarn it is a complete and utter lie. Just because I’m not blogging a lot, it doesn’t mean I’m not busy running Scout’s Swag. I am busier than ever and continue to take yarn orders on almost a daily basis. I’m so busy I’m still not, and probably won’t ever do wholesale. I just don’t think I’ll ever have the time to do more than I’m doing now.  So to anyone who is out there spreading lies about me? Stop it. Now. If you know these people spreading these lies? Feel free to break the news to them that I’m still here and will be for a long time. Got it? To those of you who support me and have my back? Lots of love to you.

That’s that.

For those waiting for more Kritter Cases I just added a bunch of Froggies and got in the Koalas. The Namaste bags are also restocked.

And now I’m off to lower my blood pressure and spend time with my company and my kids.
