Who’s the luckiest girl?

ME! Look what arrived in the mail today.

When John was here in August he was working on this. I think I asked him who it was for, and he said I dunno, and I said I WANT IT and he said okay. Something like that. And do you see how perfectly it matches my couch? Everyone needs to tell him how amazing he is. Because well, he is.

I am the luckiest girl. And my family had better stay far away from it. It’s all mine. MINE!

Eye Candy Friday Brought to you by Bop ‘n’ Beep

bob ‘n’ beep wanted to brag about how much Superboy kicks ass at knitting. This is his progress so far. He can knit an entire row without making a mistake. This mama is pretty damn proud. And see, look at that tension! Poifect! We talked about it and he said, “Yeah it’s just like weaving. You don’t want to pull too tightly or leave it too loose.”

Oh. Okay. Didn’t even know he knew how to weave….

Woah….

Thanks to Kristi, I just read my DailyOm and man is it ever spot on.

Rest In Efficiency
Aries Daily Horoscope You could feel analytical and pragmatic today as you focus on achieving your goals. This could cause you to feel disconnected socially and yearn for a greater balance between your personal and professional lives. You could remedy this feeling by consciously choosing to put your work aside for a few hours and enjoying some recreation with friends. Though you might feel a need to stay disciplined, too much work and not enough rest could create the opposite result that you are striving for. Instead of being productive, you could become tired and overworked. Choose to set aside short periods of time for fun and relaxation today, and you may find that your focus improves and your productivity increases as a result.

We can feel more positive and purposeful about our work by regularly granting ourselves the gift of recreation and relaxation. We might feel that we need to stay focused and disciplined until we get the job done, especially if we are working hard on achieving the goals we’ve set for ourselves. While this level of dedication is admirable, it can also erode our enjoyment of our work. Choosing to create a state of balance and moderation in our activities will help us enjoy our daily experiences more. This helps us be more focused and productive when we are working. Remember that a rested mind is an efficient mind. Take time to honor your need for fun today, and you will help yourself achieve your goals.

I have the Indie Swag to dye so I’m off! This month’s colorway is really cool. It was inspired by a balloon in the International Balloon Fiesta. It’s different than anything I have ever seen. John helped design it. And y’all know he has some serious color skills!

Also, I’m not the only one knitting in the house. Look who wants to get in on the knitting action.

boy

I taught him how to knit once before but it didn’t really stick. He’s been asking/begging me off and on over the last year to teach him again. I finally went out the other day and bought both kids some cool camo yarn and their own needles. After the boy finished his homework yesterday I finally sat down and showed him how to do it. He learned faster than most adults I’ve taught. By the end of the night he had about 24 rows done on his first scarf. (about 4″) When I woke up this morning he had already knit 2 more rows. He totally loves it and has perfect tension. I’m amazed.

So THERE!

To all of the haters, I mean doubters….

ribbing

Ha!! See? I’m really doing it. I know it doesn’t look like much but I think it’s been almost 2 months since I even knit at all. I’m loving how this Wollmeise is knitting up. It’s pooling a bit more than I’d like but we’ll see what it does once I get past the ribbing. (and this color is much more accurate than the other one)

Today I get to go with Supergirl and her kindy class on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. I can’t decide which camera to bring. I just hope I can walk around. On Sunday I really messed up my feet when I broke in my new cleats. I was going to upload this yesterday but didn’t want to make anyone lose their dinner. You’ve been warned do not click this link if you have a weak stomach. These blisters are BAD! See. Toldja.

It finally happened

mojo

I found my knitting mojo. It came to me this morning as I was catching up on blogs and I decided to cast on a pair of socks for myself with this beautiful Wollmeise from Victor/Elemm. (of Knitters Uncensored duh!) This color is nearly impossible to shoot correctly. It’s really a fuchsia and black. I think because I love the colorway so much I might just knit in stockinette.

So pick yourself back up off the floor. Yep. It’s going to happen. Me, wollmeise, socks. A love affair in the making.

It’s Eye Candy To Me!

(I posted this yesterday over at Flickr but wanted to share this with you here too since it’s a pretty big deal to me!)

jill-e

This picture was taken right before I left on Wednesday morning for my first paid photography shoot. Yeah I know. Crazy huh? The rehabilitation center where T. works, hired me to do their corporate headshots and CEO - group picture to put up on their website. I didn’t want to talk about it beforehand because needless to say, I was slightly freaked out. You know, one of those situations where you go from thinking, “Oh I can do this no problem!” to “Holy shit what did I get myself into!?” Thank you so much to the few of you who have held my hand through the past week. Without you there’s no way I could have done it.

The shoot is done and I delivered the group prints yesterday morning as they asked to have that rushed to them. (They LOVED the shot) I now just have to work on processing the headshots. I’m really proud of myself and the shots I took. Not bad for someone who is only playing *photographer*. They have also hired me to come and shoot the facility and and do some more group shots of the therapy and nursing team.

And this bag was a present to myself. I almost got a Crumpler but my friend Dottie pointed me towards these jill-e bags that are gorgeous. I figured with the yarn dyeing class I taught last week and this photo shoot, I deserved to use something other than the salad bowl to keep my photography stuff in. Yes, for 6 months the salad bowl has been my camera bag.

So yeah, yesterday was a pretty big day for me. And for the millionth time? I just want to thank all of your for your constant support of me. Without it, I would never have the confidence to go out and do something like I did this week. Truly. Every single comment and email from you means so much to me. It just makes me feel like I’m not doing this all alone when I know I have my big cheer-leading squad behind everything I do. You know y’all are my family. So thank you.

Okay. Done with the mush. Now go out and have a great weekend ya hear?

Look! I knit some socks!

Psyche! Haaaaa! Fine. They aren’t mine. But did I get your attention? These belong to John/YarnBallBoogie from his newest pattern he just put up today. It’s called *Stalkers*. Run over and buy it! Y’all know how much I love him and support everything he does. So go ahead. Ill make it easy on you and you can just here to buy the pattern. (downloadable for $5.50)  You know you have been looking for a new sock pattern! Right? He did these with Wollmeise. Oh! I just remembered I have that skein from Elemm. Maybe I should do this one? Or maybe I could send the skein to John and he’ll make me some? Wait. He just made me a blanket…..I’ll wait a bit before asking him for socks. Heeee.

Eye Candy Friday

I updated a little bit yesterday over at Flickr on the fire situation. I’m so fried I forgot to do it here too. I wish I could thank every single on of you for your comments over the past few days, which I normally do, but I just don’t have the time this week. So thank you. ALL of you for caring about me and my family. It means so much to me/us.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that it’s Friday. So, exhausted. But because I love you all so much I put together a pretty collage of some of my favorites from this week.

eye candy

1. I watched as they slow danced, 2. standing still, 3. they whispered to me, 4. completely unfocused

I hope you all have a great weekend. I am off to work out and then teach the second half of a dye class. I kiss you all! Eww well not you. Oh fine. On the cheek.

Scout’s Public Service Announcement

Do you have a fire extinguisher? Do you know where it is? Do your smoke alarms have fresh batteries in them? Have you recently tested them?  Please check all of that for me today m’kay?

fire

At about 7:45pm the boy asked us what smelled. We immediately got up and started looking around and noticed smoke. We got the kids right outside and tried to see if we could find it. We couldn’t, which scared us more than anything to know there was an electrical fire. T. looked for about 5 minutes before I told him I wasn’t messing around with this and was going to call 911. After 6 rescue vehicles and a dozen or more firefighters, they found the AC unit on the roof had completely fried itself and was blowing the smoke from that down into our house. This house is not even 4 years old so this was a total shock. The scariest thing was that our smoke alarms didn’t go off and we couldn’t find our fire extinguishers. We are all okay which is what is most important. My throat is sore from breathing in the smoke but otherwise the house just smells like fire. We are just so thankful they found the cause because they had called the electric company to come our and shut down all of the power to our house which would have meant emptying the fridge and freezer and finding a hotel room in which to stay. Once they were able to find the cause we were able to come back into the house, air it out and let the kids go to bed in their own beds.

Please remember to check your smoke alarms and put new batteries in them. And KNOW where your fire extinguishers are. I don’t even want to think about if this had happened in the middle of the night while we were sleeping.

And just so you know……I still kept my sense of humor and wanted to get pictures of some of those guys so badly. There were some, um…. well, super hot fire guys. I gave them cookies and brownies and thanked them but couldn’t bring myself to ask to take a picture. Maybe I need to go to the station to thank them again?
