Oh Hello Blog!!!

Um wow. July 2nd was the last time I posted? Whoops! But I do have a reason. I’ve been to San Fran and NYC in the past month and can’t barely keep up with everything else.  Here’s a little peek into the past few weeks.

1. pre-fireworks, 2. Hip Stitch, 3. Horton are you there?, 4. 34.365, 5. see yah, 6. room with a view, 7. hey you! come jump!, 8. my jawhanny, 9. life is like a taxi, 10. to be matter of fact about the world is to blunder into fantasy–and dull fantasy at that–as the real world is strange and wonderful, 11. butterfly, 12. philosophy, 13. princess in the city, 14. last but not least, 15. 45.365 - so cliché, 16. bryant park

So yeah…..I know I’m always coming here with excuses but I promise I really do have the mother of ALL excuses for you. BUT. You have to wait. For the few loyal readers who stick around and read what I have to say every once in a while you just need to give me another 2 weeks and then I can spill it. Actually, you have to go and listen to the  Yknit podcast to see what’s up with me and why I’m so busy. I promised them the exclusive announcement on the podcast so when that comes out you will find out all the details. *bwahaahaaaaaa! rubs hands together with an eeeevil grin* They said it will be up around August 2nd and it’s episode 12.

And for the few of you who know? ZIP IT! You hear me? But all is well I promise. Just busy. BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!! I am done traveling for a while so hopefully I can get my heiny over here more. I’m really hoping the next time I travel is to Rhinebeck but I don’t know if the fam will be too happy with me going again since I’ve left them twice already this year to go off and play with my friends. Errrr I mean work.  We’ll see. I really want to get out there and meet y’all. You know? My peeps! Who is going this year to Rhinebeck? Let me know…..maybe that will change my mind!

Have a good rest of your weekend. A big MWUAH to everyone.

Whoops. I Missed My Blog’s Birthday.

February 3rd was my one year anniversary of this blog. I’ve had other blogs/journals for almost 8 years but this domain name was just started a year ago. Happy Blogiversary to me. Can’t you feel the enthusiasm? No? Well, I don’t feel so hot. I’ve already done the ZICAM, Dayquil and Airborne. I need to get some Emergen-C too. I refuse to get sick. I rarely do and I’m going to keep it that way dangit. Anyway, I’m going to hold some sort of contest when I get close to my 10,000th comment so keep an eye out for that in about a month or two. I only have around 1,000 more to go until then so I’ll let you know as I get closer. I’ll think up something cool for a prize.

Here is some yarn I dyed for Carole. She wanted a subtle, variegated charcoal grey for Wicked. I can’t wait to see this knit up. Getting a good picture of this proved to be impossible. But you get the idea. I’m too tired to mess with it. Click to see it a bit better.

I’m going to bring this to Carole, come home and finish packaging up a few more orders and then I think a nap must happen. Blech. The good news is that I got a lot of work done over the weekend so it’s okay if I take the rest of the day off from work. I’ve already been to the PO once and mailed out about 15 packages. I think that’s enough work for today don’t you? Yeah, me too.

I Started a New Blog….

Inspired by so many of you who commented the other day who are in the club with me, I started a blog called The Dead Moms Club - The Club You Don’t Want to Join…. If you’re in the club? Come join us. Carole and Not an Artist are going to run it with me too. We can support one another in our motherless lives. I know to some, the blog name may seem harsh, but why not tell it like it is? There’s no nice way to put it. My mother is dead. Plain and simple. I urge someone else to start a Dead Dad’s Club Blog. The more of us that band together and support one another, the stronger we become. Will you pass the word around please? If you know someone who might need a place like this, send them over.

I promise the next post will be happy and cheery and filled with fresh smelling flowers! Or maybe I just won’t talk about death. How about that? Okay, deal. I’m off to wind and label Indie Swag.

Happy Happy To You All

wish

The Scout Family wishes you all, much love and happiness in 2007.

For the next three days I will be having a little Holiday Sale. I will be having a sale on all patterns, kits and Haiku Bags. They will be 20% off through December 26th. The Midnight Blue & Pink Haiku bags are discontinued colors so grab them while I still have them in stock because once they are gone I can’t get them again. Just a little present from me to you.

In Chez Scout we’re going on day seven of T. working. I’m ready for him to be home for the next few days. I think most of our shopping is done. I need to grab a few other things later today when he gets back from work. We don’t normally do anything for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day but this year we have been invited to a few different friends’ houses so that should be fun. See, after already celebrating Hanukkah I’m celebrated out. Did you know that January 6th is Superboy’s birthday too? Every year we feel like we celebrate and give presents for six weeks straight. I’m so happy once we are through December and January. This year we aren’t doing a party for him because he and his daddy are going to go up and ski for a day with some friends. T. and I used to ski race so it will be really cool for him to teach his own son how to ski. It’s weird to think we both were already racing when we were six years old and we have an almost eight year old who has never done any skiing other than cross-country. (When we lived in NH we skied on our own property!)

For those of you who celebrate - Merry Christmas! I can’t believe it’s finally here. Big kisses to everyone.

Got My Hair Did

This is the second time I’m donating my hair to Locks Of Love. If you have never done it I highly recommend doing it. Please click the link to read about it. I love this organization. I’ve been growing my hair out to donate it for about a year. I thought I could make it until January but it’s driving me nuts so I just went for it. The last time I did it was about three years ago.

It’s not a great picture as Superboy took it but you get the picture. It’s all shattered/layered and just barely long enough to put up in a ponytail. I really love it and so does everyone in my family. The kids keep telling me how much they love it. I don’t care that it’s shorter than I’d like it because It’s pretty easy to forget about something silly like how long your hair is when you know why it’s gone. Yah know?

Supergirl got her hair did today too.

We’re Home

Thank you for all of your good surgery mojo.

all good
He’s home eating, resting and watching a movie. I’m off to get his meds and a machine from his work so he can do PT on himself over the weekend.

I wanted to dye something special for Cynthia for always having my back and hooking me up with the most kick-ass Scout graphics. I might just have to make this one for the shop. It’s totally funky just like Cynthia in all of her favorite colors. Pinks, bright green, black & brown. It’s hula-la!

This goes off with Flat Scout tomorrow off to Vancouver! Bye-bye pretty yarn and a big thank you to Cynthia once again. You rock!

Happy Mother’s Day

to all of my mama friends. Mother’s Day used to be really hard for me as I lost my own mama in 1993. After having my own children it just became something completely different to me. It’s not that I don’t miss my own mother but my energy is just redirected into something more positive - the Superkids. I posted about my mom a few months ago if you haven’t read it I warn you it’s sad. I’m reposting this picture because without her, I wouldn’t know any of you. Seriously. She taught me how to knit when I was 8 years old and almost 30 years later this is where it’s taken me. She’s being silly in this picture with me in her belly. Wasn’t she beautiful?

Mama

A big shout out to my mama, aka *The Angel* as my kids call her. Thank you mama for teaching me something that I’ve truly enjoyed throughout my entire life so far. I love you so much and miss you even more. If you have a mama and you’re with her today? Give her a hug from me. Okay? Now I’m going to stop before I actually get sad. I have challah french toast to make for the Superkids. Bises to the Mamas!

See it? So close!

I got mail love today and it made me cry. Jen of Knit! Mama Knit! Sent me the most beautiful piece of pottery that she made. I won’t go into the details of the note but basically this was a piece that was in a gallery and never sold because she believes it was meant for me. I can’t even describe the color of purple it is. It’s just amazing. I just finished reading this book called The Same Sweet Girls and if you’ve read it, you know why this had such an impact on me today. Thank you so much J. Really.

Bowl

I also took the opportunity to show you two of my most recent wins placed in my new, pretty bowl. The Azurite is what I won from the Jaywalker contest. The Lapis was won on Jessalu’s Blog. I feel the Socks That Rock love! And Carole? Yes you’re my best friend. But no way am I just giving you some of this yarn. No way in hell! It’s allllllllll mine!

Spring Break Sucks

Or should I tell you how I really feel? When I used to teach high school I loved Spring Break. Who wouldn’t!? Now that I’m a mama? It sucks. Especially now that I’m a working mama it doubly sucks. (How’s that grammar from an English teacher?) A whole week with my kids home? It sounds like so much FUN! uh oh At least my girl C is helping me today, I’m helping her on Thursday and T. just called and can get off half a day on Friday so I should be all set this week. That just leaves Tuesday & Wednesday for me to figure out what to do with the Scoutlets.

Yesterday was Supergirl’s party and the kids had a blast. I can’t get into some other stuff that happened that ended up giving me one of my stress stomach aches and putting me out of commission for the rest of the night but at least I’m physcially feeling better this morning. (sweet run-on sentence!) The good news of the day is that I won another contest! I think that random name generator loves me. elizagrrl and her shitty kitty had a little contest and I won some yarn and other goodies. Getting that e-mail was a great way to start my day. I needed that for sure.

My goal today is to finish Supergirl’s sock. I think it’s doable. I’m up to the toe decreases. I’m even going to bring Pretty Pretty Purple to the store today so I can wind it and figure out what needles to use.
