Vogue Knitting Winter 2008-2009!

Eeeeek. So exciting. Check out who got not only one but TWO Hot Pick mentions!

They link up my exclusive Martini Sock Blockers and my Protect the Swag Sachets. I’m beyond thrilled. I also still have nine Cali Zuma Limited Edition Eggplant bags for anyone looking for it. I know that most people are sold out and once they are gone I don’t know if and when I will get more.

Oh hai bloggy!

Not making any excuses. I’m going to pretend I didn’t just notice I haven’t posted since my boy’s birthday.  (thank you all for the sweet birthday wishes!) Dang. How does time slip by like that? Maybe having in-laws visit?  How about I share some pretty pictures? I owe you a few Eye Candy Friday shots so here goes.

Also? The Limited Edition Eggplant Zumas are here and I still have a few in stock. I have already shipped out the 65 pre-ordered and there are 15 left. I am not sure if and when I can even get any more. I will tell you that it’s even prettier in person. I have gotten compliments everywhere I go with it already!

If you want one? Grab it now! I might get more in but I am not 100% sure. Stay tuned for new sock club information for the next round! I can’t believe it’s actually almost time for another year of sign ups. Hope you are well! Have a great Sunday.

GO EAGLES! (my dad made me root for them)

Just Curious…..

if you or anyone you know have a significant other who refuses to believe they are as old as they are? Do they hold onto their youth so much that they injure themselves on things such as, like let’s say, a Ripstik? Like are they 41 and bring a Ripstik to work to play on with their coworkers and then fall and break their elbow? You know, like badly enough that they need surgery? Oh did I mention that they might also be something like a Physical Therapist and sort of need to use their hands/arms/ELBOWS? It helps to have the use of your arms when you have to do things like transfering a patient from a wheelchair to their bed. Kind of helps.  I only wish this was a hypothetical situation. Do you see something wrong with this x-ray?

dumbass²

Yeah see that part that is not attached anymore.  That’s his elbow. Or what is left of it.  *sigh* So do you have a story like this? Know any other Peter Pan syndrome types out there? How about we share some stories okay? It would make me feel better and maybe not be so angry with my husband. Maybe one of these days he’ll realize he isn’t 16 anymore. Come on. I know there are some good stories out there. Ready? Go.

(BTW- we see a Dr. first thing on Monday morning and hopefully they will schedule surgery ASAP. He needs a few screws to put that elbow back together. Maybe they can take them out of his head since there are apparently a few loose up there already?)

Happy Friday Everyone!

Yesterday ranked as one of the most amazing days of my life.  I got within three feet of Barack Obama.  See this girl in the green shirt?

She’s standing in what they call the buffer. It’s the area for the press in between the public and the stage. I got to be in that spot for about 10 minutes yesterday in Española, NM and got within 3 feet of Barack while he spoke. Look.

I got in as press again, and now have 430 shots to go through. It was truly amazing to be this close to him. The speech was beyond inspiring. I hope to get to some more pictures later today and will get them up in this flickr set.  The whole day was just fantastic. One of those days I will never, ever, forget.

Have a great weekend everyone!

wow

Do you see the new digs? How awesome is this new blog!?!?  We are still working on a few things so know everything will work within the next day or two. But I love it sooooooo much.  And how she made a font with my own handwriting? Um hello coolness! Cynthia & Norm ROCK!!!

I had an amazing day today. So I found out today that this rally was going on. By the time I called to get tickets they were all gone. I wrote about it on Ravelry and a number of people said I should just go down there and try and get in. I knew at least I would get some good pictures.  On the way down there Pippi/Symeon told me to just tell them I was an independent journalist which I guess I kind of am right? I mean, I have a blog/flickr/etc….. I figured the worst thing that would happen is that they’d tell me no.

When I got there I stumbled into the VIP entrance and figured I would just go for it. I told them I was there as a journalist. They asked me for whom and I basically explained I was a local photographerand had a blog.  I told her I really really wanted to be able to get in there. I waited about 5 minutes and guess what? She let me in. With a press pass.

My heart pounded the whole time I was there. It was a total adrenaline rush. I stood on the same stage as the news crews. It was seriously cool. I still can’t believe they let me in. A few people took my cards to possibly use some of my shots too. That would be pretty cool. And thank goodness for the D300 live view. We were getting yelled at by security to get off the chairs so I took a bunch of these shots by holding my camera up and looking through live view.

So yeah. Pretty cool day. See the other shots here.

So yeah…. I’m writing a book. Seriously.

Pretty wild huh? Now it might make more sense why I’ve been completely swamped. Well, more than normal anyway.  And that trip to NYC a few weeks ago? That was to meet with Melanie Falick, my editor, to go over the book and my deadlines for the next year. We’ve been in talks now for almost two years about this book so it was nice to finally meet her in person. And yeah, almost TWO YEARS! I first contacted her when I found out I was going to be on Knitty Gritty in the fall of 2006 because I had an idea for a book. It wasn’t exactly this book I am writing now but many aspects of what that book would have been will be able to get into this book. Over the past year and a half or so we’ve been shaping the book into what it has now become; a book on dyeing fiber.  There have been lots of outlines, project samples, writing samples, yarn samples all going back and forth between us until we finally hammered out exactly what would work best. I am beyond excited, a lot proud and whole buncha scared! Maybe scared isn’t really the right word but I definitely get surges of feeling overwhelmed by the hugeness of this. I mean hello. Melanie Falick? Me? Working with her? Harry N. Abrams, Inc. :: STC Craft? Have you seen their books?  (below are a few of the new ones)  They are gorgeously done and appeal to this photographer’s eye like no other. To be honest, I still can’t believe I am doing a book with them. But I am.

I’m not sure how many of you know that I used to be a high school English teacher. I have my Masters of the Arts in Teaching too. After Superboy was a year and a half old we moved from Boulder, Co to New Hampshire and I stopped teaching. While there I even got my Real Estate License but never used it because we moved to Albuquerque and before I knew it I started up Scout’s Swag. If you got to listen to the Y KNIT podcast, you heard that I grew up knitting and crafting. To me, this whole thing is truly full circle. My mother who passed away 15 years ago, was a teacher and an amazingly talented knitter. I’m pretty sure she’d be so happy and proud that I’m taking everything I’ve learned over my whole life and pouring it into this book. Not many people get to take something they are so passionate about and make a living out of it. I know how fortunate I am.  I guess hard work does pay off sometimes?  Maybe?  I loved being able to tell my father about the book deal and how he could be happy I was using my college degree again so he could feel better about all of that money he spent on me to go to school. He’s always been really proud of me but this made him extra proud.

Along with the writing of this book, I am really going to make more of an effort to write here too. I miss my blog and think the redesign will help motivate me to come here more. Now that the cooler weather is coming I will be knitting more. I might even go knit with some friends again on a regular basis. Mona? Feel free to cattle prod me to get me to come hang okay? But the new blog will be more suited to what I have going on in my life now. I want a place where I can talk about my photography, work, crafting, writing, kids, cooking, etc. You know, more than just the crafty part. I’ve felt for a long time that if I didn’t have any knitting to share, I had nothing to talk about here. I don’t want that anymore. Cynthia and I have already started working on the redesign and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Well I think that covers it all. For now at least. Aslo? I want to thank all of you out there who have supported me over the past years. I couldn’t do this without you, and you and you and YOU! Really.  I hope you know how much I appreciate the love and support you give me on a daily basis. Without you I wouldn’t be where I am right now. My hope is that over the next few years I will get around a lot more and get to meet a lot of you. That’s the plan Stan and I’m sticking to it!I turned my first two chapters in on Monday and this month is Chapter 3. And Sock club. And school starts. And……..yeah.

Finally….. the BIG announcement!

I’m so excited and nervous to finally share this news with everyone. It might make more sense to you now why I’ve been even busier than normal. You have to listen to the Y KNIT podcast to see what the news is exactly even if you may think you know.  I’ll come back and talk about it more once everyone’s had a chance to listen to it. And they’re having a contest too!

didja go listen yet?
huh?
didja!? :)

Hurry Up!

Y’all know how hard it is to get some of these pretties!

I want to see all of that gone by the time I come back from running errands…..

Baaaaaaaa!!! Scout’s will be in the Rhinebeck Hizzaouse!

(image from the Sheep & Wool website)

Yep. 100% for sure. I just need to buy my plane ticket. But, wanna know why it’s for sure? Because I’m flying into Newark to stay with my dad, then will borrow his car and on my way up to Rhinebeck I’m picking up my girl Amy Singer! We’re going to drive up and back together and sister already got her tickets so it’s an absolute GO! Can I get a woot woot!?!?  We are so Thelma and Louising it minus the cliff jump. We haven’t decided who gets Brad Pitt yet.  :D  I’m so excited, to finally, after all of these years, meet a whole bunch of you. I can’t even begin to wrap my mind around the number of people I will finally get to meet. I’m sure it will be completely overwhelming. I’m not staying in any of the hotels because some good friends of mine live in Bloomington. I can handle a 20 minute drive to save on a hotel room. Amy and I were such total dorks this morning getting all excited about it. The plan is that I’ll/we’ll be up there on Friday all the way through Sunday. She has a book signing on Sunday from 1-2 so we will leave a little bit after that. So who do I get to meet??? Huh!?!?!

And lookie lookie. I need a good name for this little chickadee cowl, designed by the super talented Kirsten, because I started it on the flight to Italy and finished it on the flight to San Fran. last month. It’s been all over the world and back. It’s a really fun and easy pattern and just needs one skein of something chunky. I used a skein of #117 Manos del Uruguay. I can’t wait until it’s actually cool enough to wear it. I wish I could share the story about what happened on the plane to Italy with this but I can’t because I gave that woman my card. Let’s just say I had a very nice woman who took my knitting from me to *show me* how she could knit. And let’s just say I had to rip the whole thing out and start over…..yeah just what we love to do right? Riiiiiiiight.

I also have two one skein of this really pretty yarn for sale. SOLD! I have been playing around with some immersion dyeing and these are a result of that. They range from little bits of white all the way to a gorgeously dark crimson. This is also a one of a kind dealio. I don’t think I wrote down what I did. Or maybe I did? Wait, I could do it again I’m pretty sure. Yeah….that’s the ticket.

For anyone looking for the new Namaste Cali bags I have another order that should be here anyday. I’ll try and get here and announce it when then come in. Okay, all this excitement has me exhausted already and it’s only 9:30am. Any travel agents out there? Who’s really good at getting cheap tickets? I am flying from Albuquerque to Newark. I can’t seem to find anything for less than 417 before taxes and that is just so dang steep! Let me know if you are a good flight getter.

Have a good one my friends!

See You in Two Weeks!!

Sorry fiber friends. You can’t come! Even if you looked as cute as my kids I’d still say no!

The shop will remain open but nothing will ship again until May 20th. Maybe I’ll post a special Eye Candy Friday shot from Rome if you behave? Heeee! Please send me good travel vibes. Have I mentioned I’m terrified of flying? Yes. As in total anxiety attack afraid of flying.  Have any good tips for flying on long flights? I am going to bring knitting. YES! I’m going to make a few pairs of Fetchings.  Hopefully that will keep my mind off of the plane crashing. I’ll bring some magazines and some cards. Got the iPod too. But what else? Anyone? I’ll take whatever advice you have! I’m the ADD girl and can’t imagine being on a flight for 9.5 hours. Yikes. I mean I’ve been to Europe two other times but I was young and dumb and probably just slept. So hit me with your best ideas.

See you on the flip side! Right? I’ll make it home safely. RIGHT?!?!?
