These are just a few of the skeins going out today. It seems like everyone is wanting Project Spectrum colors these days. I just added four new colorways to the gallery. Make sure and check them out. The Hunker Down was for Christy for the Hurricane Sock Party 2007. I’ve been doing a lot of gradation dyeing lately so she gave me the freedom to do whatever I wanted with this one. I love it. It’s purple! How could I not? The Joseph’s Coat colorway was inspired by this rose as a custom order for Paula. I liked it enough to make it a regular. I also put up the Turquoise Snowbunny since there were so many requests for it as well as one final colorway that is a secret. I’ll talk about it once I’m allowed to. For now I’ll just call it secret.
Just a heads up to anyone wanting yarn from me. I’m super busy since the show and have about a 2-4 week wait on all yarn orders. Until I am able to catch up with orders and get the Indie Swag Club dyed, I have to give myself that much time for every order. Sometimes I might be able to get to it faster, but for now, that’s what I’m saying and I’m sticking to it!
**Edited to add my own preppy picture!**
First of all I have to say how thrilled I am that I just registered Supergirl for Kindergarten. She was so excited to go with me and we realized it’s only 4 months until she actually goes! The fact that she’ll get on the bus with her brother in the morning and go to the same school as him for the first time ever is pretty cool stuff.
Okay, I know you’re here for the contest. I wanted to celebrate Project Spectrum since I love pink and already have a perfect colorway for these two months. Most of you have seen my Prepster colorway designed by Leslie a few months ago. We can break it out now in full on Project Spectrum style. The winner of this contest gets this skein of yarn. A 400 yd skein in fingering weight, 100% superwash merino of Scout’s Prepster. She’s pretty huh? Click to see the colors better.

Here’s the contest. Tell me about the preppiest outfit you’ve ever worn. If you have a picture? Even better. I want to see it. If you’re wearing pink, yellow or green you’ll get bonus points. If you have never gone through a preppy stage, you can opt for a Project Spectrum Limerick in honor of April being National Poetry Month. (Bev helped me come up with this!) The only catch, is that in your Limerick you must have the words pink, yellow and green in it. Bev and Pippi will help me judge the winner of the contest. We’re looking for humor here people. Make us laugh! The funniest outfit or Limerick wins. Maybe there will be a 2nd and 3rd place prize if there are some close ones. Here is an example of me in the 5th grade. I don’t have a scanner so this is what you’ll get. Notice the lovely yellow turtleneck, plaid skirt AND blue suede clogs. And of course the mandatory headband. My mother must have picked this one out for me. I wish she were alive so I could ask her if I put the yellow turtleneck on as some sort of rebel statement because I can’t imagine she did. It doesn’t go with anything! OKay, maybe the yellow stripe in the skirt? Who knows.

The contest will go for the next 48 hours. Noon, my time on Wednesday I’ll turn off the comments and on Thursday we’ll announce the winner. I’ll even see if I can find a picture of my preppy, 8th grade outfit. And yes, a pink Oxford was worn over the white turtlenck with red hearts. Alright. I’m ready for some good stuff. Hit it!

Still feeling like crap so I thought I’d take some pictures for Project Spectrum to brighten up my mood. When you live in New Mexico it’s pretty easy to get shots of things that are blue. Just look up. I love the picture of the little birdfeeder Supergirl made at preschool. Do you see the buds on the tree? That makes me happy. I’m ready for the warm weather.
I also added a new colorway to the Gallery that I dyed last week for a friend to knit with’s daughter. It’s a perfect colorway for Project Spectrum April/May isn’t it? It’s called Prepster. Maybe I should call it Project Spectrum Prepster? I’m going to dye some roving for Bev’s birthday present later today. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in roving.

I really wanted to go to Stitch ‘n’ Bitch tonight but I’m not sure if I feel good enough to go. I think I need another night just hanging out and watching American Idol with the kids and T. I didn’t sleep very well last night and am feeling it right now. Maybe it’s time for a triple shot of something? Which one should I go for? Espresso? Nyquil? Vodka? It’s a toss up. I’m cracking up at people’s comments about mixing them all together. How about we call it a Vodkaspressquil? Nyquitini? I can’t imagine what that would do to a person’s system. I guess the the Nyquil and vodka would overpower the caffeine? Maybe I need to wait until another adult is in the house…..too funny. I’m so tired this is completely making me laugh.
Do you know what tomorrow is? Margene. You MUST know. My girl Carole must know too. And of COURSE Lucia and Chris know!!! Who else knows what day it is? Scooby snacks to everyone who gets it right. I’m waiting…..didja get it?
PROJECT SPECTRUM JULY!!!! What colors are July?!?!? VIOLET AND PURPLE Whoo hoooo!
I think the purple loving crafties should do something special this month. Any good ideas? This is the best color month so we really should …. Anyone? This is the month to celebrate. Fo SHO!
And the cocktail I’m currently working on has absolutely nothing to do with the zealous nature of this post.
These two pretties are still left. I can’t believe a Bluetini is still there. Project Spectrum People! I also marked down the Caramel Swirl. It’s so pretty y’all! I promise.
I also wanted to thank everyone for your continued support. It really means a lot to me that I have you all out there cheering for me. Remember to
sign up at the shop so you’ll get the e-mail notices when I update. My goal is to update about once a week. Now that it’s up and running I’m going to start adding in some new colorways too. Oh, if you want a button for your blog I made one. It never hurts to
beg ask my knitster friends to hook their sistah-friend up now does it? At this rate I have to rely on word of mouth to get my customers since I’m not over at Etsy anymore. Ya dig?
I just finished re-skeining a beautiful custom colorway for another sport’s fan. This one was for a WSU fan. Once she sees it I’ll share the picture of it.
And finally, check this picture out. It’s my DYE-O-RAMA pal’s sock with the Zutano I dyed for her!
I love how it’s knitting up. OKay. I must get to bed early tonight. I’m exhausted.
Can I serve you a Bluetini? Straight up or on the rocks?
I’m having a hard time getting the colors just right in a picture. There are 3 shades of blue with a little bit of turquoise. It’s so pretty I keep staring at it. I’m really proud of this one. Here are a few other pictures to see it in a different light.
Almost two weeks ago Lucia and I talked about a possible Bluetini as a custom order for her. I’ve been thinking about it since then and finally was able to make it work today. (Of course now she’s gone and bought yarn and dye to do her own yarn….thpppt) That’s how my brain works with this. I really spend quite a bit of time working out the colorways in my head until it feels right and then I go for it. I’m kind of a perfectionist if you haven’t noticed.
Just in time for Project Spectrum-June huh? I dyed 3 of them and put them up at Etsy if you’re thirsty. I would be more than happy to do more of these too so just let me know if they sell out. I just Paypal you an invoice and voila, I get it out within a day or two. Usually you have your choice between superwash/nylon or 100% superwash merino. All of this talk of martinis has me thirsty……
Albuquerque Style. These are pictures of all the greenery around my house from this morning. (Sorry to all of you rainy people for showing you that blue stuff in the sky.) The only thing that isn’t mine is the palm yucca which lives across the street. I actually don’t like palm yuccas because they freak me out. I think they are one of the weirdest plants. I wish I had taken a picture of this one about a month ago when it had its alien-like white pods coming out of the top. However, they are kinda cool looking I guess. I’ll stick with the rosemary plants in my front yard though. Here is my May, Project Spectrum Collage.
Did you know that dogs like cilantro? Or is that just New Mexico dogs? I planted some last weekend and naughty Chulo ate the whole friggin’ thing! He went nuts for it. Dang dog. Andyone else have a cilantro-eating dog? See? Look at him. He’s laughing at me.
Remember these colors I picked out for my IK Wobbly Tote for March Project Spectrum?
Well now that it’s April I decided to trade in those colors for the new colors.
How much fun will that be? Hello Spring! I usually don’t like any of these colors but they are really speaking to me and I think will look super cute all felted up together. One of the things that Project Spectrum forces us all to do is go outside our normal colors. I think it’s a good thing. Otherwise? What Project Spectrum month is purple? I can always trade them in each month until the purple month. Ha!
I have another new project up my sleeve today. Hey Dave? Lookie what I’m borrowing from one of the owners of the store. Wanna come play?
I’m thinking there will be some dye flying over here this afternoon. Cookie was so kind and sent me some dyes and I thought I’d do some Project Spectrum colors. Stay tuned.
Oh! I found out last night I got picked to be a test knitter for some cool, new, yarn from Jacey of Insubordiknit. I can’t wait to see what it is. If you have never seen her swag go check it out. She is super talented and as you can see, has so much fun with every single thing she makes!
I finished my first Supergirl sock with Mama-E’s hand-dyed yarn. I absolutely love it. It also fits her perfectly. I’ve already cast on the second sock and hope to whip it right out so I can start on my next project.
At this point I think most of the recipients of the Sock Club have gotten their packages so I’m not putting this behind a cut. Don’t scroll down any further if you don’t want to see what we got in our first kit.
The yarn is called Rainforest Jasper. It’s soooooo pretty. I really think that my T. needs a pair of socks out of this. Even though he said not to knit him anything I think I’m going to. Tough. It will be available to the public in 3 months if you want it. I also made new banner and button to go with our Sock Club Blog’s new name. We held a contest to name the blog and it was a total coincidence that the name that won was almost identical to the bumper sticker that got sent to us!

Time for a run! Ciao!
In celebration of Project Spectrum and both Supergirl’s (March 20th) and my birthday (March 29th) we had a special girl’s day. My mama’s birthday was March 23rd so we celebrate that too. My mom always had perfectly manicured hands & feet so my girly and I went and got ours done today too. (I just do the toes as I can’t keep polish on my nails for more than about 2 minutes) I normally go for dark burgundy but in honor of Project Spectrum I went with this color. I love the women that do our toes/fingers. Aren’t the flowers the cutest? Supergirl loves them and loved the massage chair even more. I was laughing the whole time at her little body in that big chair.

After that we did what all girls do on girl’s day. We went to the mall! Supergirl needed some more summery clothes since she’s grown about 4″ over the past few months. She’s extremely difficult in the clothing department as she’s
very particular about what she likes. In all of Project Spectrum glory, the girly chose lots of pink stuff. But
cool pink stuff. Not
girly pink stuff. Do you get the picture? And of course she picked out clothes in purple and black because well, she’s my daughter. I think she might finally have some clothes she’ll put on in the morning without a cryfest. We also got all of the stuff for her party. She even picked
out this. Isn’t that fantastic!? Not. I only agreed because you can have the kids pull those strings instead of hurting each other with a bat.

Also? After about an hour after the tooth drama, the boy said to me, “Mama? I don’t think the tooth fairy is real! I think you just come in and put money under my pillow.” Does this mean I’m off the hook from now on? If the tooth fairy doesn’t exist there doesn’t need to be any more giving of money right? More yarn money for me! Sounds perfect.
