The first installment of the sock club yarn is almost all done. Whoo hoo! I was a little worried since this time around I have more than twice the club members than the past two years and I’m getting ready to go on vacation in 2 weeks. Yikes! But it’s almost ready to go out the door and even earlier than I thought. Hopefully Friday or Saturday it will post. I already mailed the international ones since they take longer. I really like this colorway. I worked on it with one of the randomly chosen club members and it’s inspired by a painting by Winslow Homer. Here is a picture of it….

Not! Is it too late for April Fool’s? You should know better than me spoiling the colorway before all of you get it! I took a picture of the yarn because this marks the beginning of my vacation. In the almost 20 years T. and I have been together we have never taken a real vacation. In two weeks we leave to go to Italy for 11 days. I can’t wait. The kids will be staying here with a friend and are slowly getting used to the idea of how this all works. The past two days has been spent playing the “So what time is it there?” game. We have only ever been away for two nights so the girly is a wee bit scared. The boy could care less. They know they can call us or text us and that they will spoiled rotten by all of our friends.
Actually, have any good ideas about what to do for the kids while I’m gone so they don’t miss us too much? Someone told me to get them little presents to open up each day we are gone. Any other ideas? I’ll take them! Definitely a calendar to mark off the days, and I don’t know what else. I would love to have some input!
I just wanted to remind everyone that the shop will still be open while I am gone but nothing will be shipped from May 6th-May19th. The shop is completely stocked with everything right now. If you need/want anything I suggest getting it now! I wanted to remind you that I’m not taking any yarn orders until after June 1st. It will be the longest I will go without dyeing yarn in over 2 years. Kinda crazy.
So cheers my friends! Anyone have any favorite things to do in Rome? Favorite place to eat?? Gelato shops??? Must sees? We’ll be there for two days before we go to where we are staying for a week. But HOORAY! I’m going on a real, adult vacation!!!!
Well I haven’t really sinned but I need forgiveness. As of right now I have 2700 unread messages in Bloglines. Last week, the Sock Club completely kicked my arse and made me more behind with blog reading than I have been in a very long time. There is no way I can catch up so I am going to clean my Bloglines slate and start over. Would it make you feel better if I gave you some green yarn? A Guinness? Oh good! I’m glad. Here. Happy St. Scoutsswag Day!
So now it’s my turn to ask you what I’ve missed. Please please leave me a comment and let me know what’s up with you? I hate missing important things or even totally mundane things. Tell me what you’ve been up to. (whether you are on my bloglines or not!) I really want to know and this way I can see it all right here and won’t feel so badly that I can’t get to your blogs. Okay? Thank you.
ps - my new ring is from Pineapple Seed. Go look at their jewelry. It’s beautiful!

tell me what’s up with you? There is no WAY I will be able to catch up on a week of Bloglines. So do me a favor? Either just leave a comment telling me something or link me to a post of yours that tells me about what’s been up with you. Will you all do that please? This way, I can catch up with you and know what’s going on in your life. I want it all. The good, bad, ugly, FO’s, birthdays, anniversaries…..you name it. I am going to clear Bloglines and start all over. OKay?
For me? Look! I got some knitting done. Just a little but hey, it’s something. I still totally love this Chevron Scarf pattern.
The other super exciting news is that John/Yarn Ball Boogie is coming to see me! He booked his tickets this morning and comes in two weeks. We are so damn excited to hang out and get into all kinds of trouble. He has become one of my best friends over the past months and I can not wait to meet him in person. I mean, we talk on the phone almost daily, but haven’t met yet! YET! He is also going to be here when Carole and I get new tattoos. He’s drawing mine so it will be so cool to have him there when I get it! YAY!
So tell me…..what’s up with you!?!?
Ever since I started dyeing and selling my yarn I’ve always reskeined them. Always. I’ve done it for a number of reasons even though it’s extremely time consuming. (Or I should say that T. does it.) I also assumed that the majority of people like seeing the yarn better that way as you are able to really see how the yarn will look when knitted. In the past few weeks I’ve asked a few people which way they prefer their hand-painted yarn and I’ll admit that I’ve been surprised. Margene told me the other day that she actually likes the *as is* version better. Yesterday when Mona was here helping me get the Indie Swag out (yes you heard that right) she absolutely preferred the *as is* version much better than the reskeined one. So did John and a few other people when I showed them the difference between the two. This led me to mail out half of the Indie Swag reskeined and the other half in the *as is* state as a little test. I did this because I would really like to see what everyone thinks. For the purposes of this poll, the Indie Swag yarn has been completely altered to conceal its true colors. I must protect the innocent until all 40 of these arrive in their new homes. Next week I can show you what this really looks like. I think it’s one of my favorite colorways to date. Seriously. So check out what I’m talking about.

You can see the top skein is twisted straight into a skein and the bottom one has been reskeined to offset the colors. I would like as much imput on this as possible. Please explain in the comments why you like the one you like. I don’t know if I’ll really change how I do things, but I aim to please and want to know how the majority feels so maybe I should? Who knows. Let’s see what you guys think. I’m dyeing to know. Haaa! Hey Norma! pretty punny!
I wanted to also leave a few links for you all to check out if you have a minute. Please go read
Pippi’s post from yesterday. There is this one from
Gretchen. And finally, my girl
Carole. We all know that every little bit helps when it comes to fund-raising. Thank you very much if you take the time to go read these links and an extra special thank you if you donate.

Even though I will not start this sweater until I reach my 100 miles for Runagogo, I might get the yarn before that if I can find some good deals. I think I might even be able to just get it all at Village Wools. I was there yesterday and fell in love with Silk Garden 243. Aren’t you shocked? Black and purple. It’s so not me! /sarcasm. I need help though. I can’t decide on what Cash Iroha I want for the bottom. I’m leaning toward the black, but I’m curious what you all think. If there is another color you think would work well let me know that too. So take the poll and leave a comment telling me what you think. I promise that the poll will decide this for me. So all of you anti-purple people like Cookie (Gasp! I know!) could get me to knit a green sweater!
It’s such a hard decision because they could all work. Somehow I think it will be great motivation for me to have this yarn in my stash. I must. Plus, seeing all of the people signing up over on
Poppy Along has caused much Noro lust. It’s just so damn pretty I have to have it NOW.

Did you? I hope so. I did and it felt good.
If not, grab your knitting and sit your butt in line and do it. Now.
And just in case you run into “any problems voting (electronic voting machines that malfunction, officials that wrongly prevent you from casting a ballot, whatever), the National Campaign for Fair Elections has set up a toll-free hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE. The group has monitors and attorneys on-hand to help deal with problems as they arise, so it’s probably worth giving them a call with any issues. Please post this on your blog and pass it on.” (via Rebecca’s Pocket & then Yarnmaven)
Like this crap that’s been goin on around here. Thanks for the link Jenny. Da-yum does that make my blood boil.

Let’s talk about you and me. Let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be…..let’s talk about Stash.” Oh wait. It’s supposed to be sex right? I love that song.
Anyway, I’ve been meaning to ask all of you a question. I asked some of the Village Wools girls this the other day because it truly interests me. Are you a stash buyer or a project buyer? Let me explain. When you are in a yarn shop and/or see yarn online do you buy yarn with a specific project in mind or do you just think eventually come up with something to make with it and buy it because you fall in love with it? Or is there another type of yarnie out there I’m missing? I do not buy yarn just because it’s pretty. Honestly. It’s why I don’t have a very big stash at all. The yarn I have was either given to me or I bought to start a specific project. I don’t think I’ve ever bought yarn just because it was beautiful and eventually I would figure out what to do with it. I used to be a completely monogomous knitter but since working in the shop I’ve fallen off of that wagon. I will admit do I have quite a bit more than this

that mostly consists of Socks That Rock (with which I had better make the Sock Club socks or Tina will personally hunt me down and cause serious bodily harm) but really, I don’t have a very big stash. I think I just feel like when I’m ready to make something I’ll buy it. Otherwise it’s really hard for me to just buy yarn for the hell of it. Does that sound totally foreign to you? Or are you like me? I’ll give you another example. I saw this bag yesterday on clutteringmycouch’s blog. I didn’t just think, “Oh that yarn is cool I want it.” In my brain I thought, “Oh that could possibly be a really cool yarn for my Funky Scarf Swap.” So I bought some. In purple of course. (Shut up! My pal loves purple too!) I don’t care that it’s acrylic. I think it’s funky.

That’s pretty much the only way I will buy yarn. Even in the shop I get to see all of the most beautiful yarns out there in the World of Knitting and don’t just buy things to enhance my stash. I guess it’s just not in my personality to do that. I know we’ve all flashed our stash but I’m curious as to have you’ve aquired alla that. Am I alone in only project-buying yarn? Inquiring minds want to know. And…… GO!
