Potluck Post!

Oh this will be a ramble so just hang in there okay? Let’s see. First of all, I’m going to give a little fake peek to the Indie Swag Club members. Just like last time, these are NOT the colors of the yarn but I wanted to tease you a little bit before you get your packages. They will probably go out on Thursday. I finished the dyeing and now they just need to dry, be labeled and packaged up with the swag. It’s fun messing the colors up on the yarn to conceal it’s identity! And I know, doesn’t the imposter look pretty!?

swag imposter

I don’t feel like it’s spoiling it to tell you a little bit about this months swag. Because hey, it’s my club and I can do what I want right!? (Didn’t I say this with month 1? ha!) This month’s swag has been almost a year in the making. Seriously. It is a pattern by Cookie A. Yes. You read that right. Cookie A. THE Cookie A. Pomatomus Cookie. Monkey Cookie. Are you with me now?!?! And, it’s amazing. Ohhhhhh just wait. She also designed the colorway that goes with the pattern. You can’t really tell but it’s a semi-solid that doesn’t look anything like the one above. It’s gorgeous. I’ll shut up now. But really!!! I’ll show the yarn and the pattern next week once everyone has received it. Patience my dearies.

Within the next two weeks Scout’s Swag will be completely restocked. Pretty much everything that is low or sold out right now should be up in the shop between June 28th & July 10th or so. Even the Haiku Bags! In a few days I will also show you a few new things I’m thinking of getting and I’d like your feedback. If you are not signed up for the newsletter at the shop, and want to be among the first to know when the shop is stocked, go sign up as a customer. I don’t send many emails but I do send them to my customers first. I will also be taking yarn orders again after July 1st and adding a few new colorways to the gallery too.

Finally, I wanted to give a shout-out to a new podcast I finally got to listen to today. Have you checked out Knitters Uncensored? Click the link. I will wait. Okay. Did you go? Download their podcast/s. I listened to all three episodes today while dyeing and I absolutely loved listening to them. They are funny, and Elemm’s accent is to die for! I have to say that I like a podcast that actually talks about other things than yarn. I mean, they talk about knitting, don’t get me wrong! But there’s other stuff too. I know that everyone looks for different things in a podcast but if you’re looking for a new fun one, definitely check them out. The other two podcasters are Ms. B/Bockstark Knits and Cashyie/Cashmacrylic. They all live in Germany now even though none of them are from there. Just go listen. I’m not telling you anything else! Many of you probably know of them already but I thought they deserved a mention from me since they kept me company while I dyed today. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them and can’t wait to hear the next one. Hurry up you guys! You hear me?

I’m totally fried. I think I need a beer. Peace OUT!

If you have not received yours yet don’t read any further. Your surprise will be spoiled if you do…… Read More »

Round II is Now Closed

round II

Once again I’d like to thank Adam (who dyes fantastic yarn too!) for helping me with the signup for Round II. There were almost 175 people in the lottery for 53 spots. I have already emailed all of the lottery winners and they have until tomorrow afternoon to pay. If at that time there are people who haven’t paid I will do another lottery to pick replacement spots. Er, I mean Adam will run another lottery. Thank you all again for signing up. I already have ideas some really cool ideas for Round III…..

Sorry for the lack of knitting content around here. If I haven’t been up to my eyeballs in GoKnit pouch orders, I’ve been dyeing yarn. (there were 108 orders after that Knitter’s Review article) For the first time in a year I actually decided to not take custom orders for a week so I can catch up. I’m learning that sometimes you just have to say no in order to save your sanity. The other big things this week is that a certian little girl turns 5 tomorrow. Big day in the Scout household. I’ll write more about that later.

Once again congratulations to all of the lottery winners!

This & That

First up, Saturday Sky. Taken at 8:00am.

I also have a skein of Prepster for sale. Somehow, a few specks of black/purple got on it and being the perfectionist I am, I didn’t feel comfortable sending it to the person who ordered it. Click the picture to see what I’m talking about. It’s a totally pretty skein of yarn and even though yes, handpainted yarn is never perfect, I know those teeny few spots are there and already re-dyed it for my customer.

And finally, remember that you have until 6:00pm MST tonight to sign up for the Scout’s Indie Club lottery. Read about it here. Then it’s closed for a whole year people! Since I’m doing every other month for 6 months on this one I won’t do another sign up until March/April 2008. Speaking of Indie Swag……I am off to dye this month’s yarn. Did I forget to tell you who the swag is from this month to tease you a bit? Just a little ole pattern from Kate Gilbert. Yep. And it’s incredible. Just wait until you see it. The final month of the first round of the club is going out with a BANG! I plan to get it in the mail by the 23rd or before.

I almost forgot. If you live in New Mexico can you please follow this link and click on the demand button to get Amy R. Singer to come to Village Wools for a book signing. She said it really helps to show her publisher where people want her so I started this up. We’re up to 37 demands already so get those clicks in! Also, I’m so excited my friend Stefanie Japel aka Glampyre Knits, is coming to Village Wools on May 5th for a book signing and trunk show. She’ll be there from 1-3pm so make sure you come down to buy her new book fitted knits and get her to sign it!

Eye Candy & Don’t Forget!

Happy Friday everyone. How’s this for some Eye Candy Friday?

blossom

I love this tree in our yard.

Don’t forget that starting tonight at 6:00pm MST, for 24 hours, you can sign up for to be in the Indie Swag Club lottery. Signing up does not guarantee you a spot, it just gets you into the pool where the program Adam wrote will randomly pick the spot. Please do not sign up unless you are absolutely 100% sure you want in. Make sure you also pick the one spot you want. (6/3/1/ month spot) If you have any questions let me know. If you have any questions please let me know. Try to also use the email address you use with Paypal. If you get picked, you will receive an email and a Paypal invoice by Sunday or Monday.

The cool thing about doing it this way is that I will really get a good feel for just how many people are interested in being a club member. I’m out. Have a great weekend everyone!

Scout’s Indie Swag II - Details

First of all I’d like to wish Margene a Happy Birthday! I hope you have a fantastic day. You deserve it grrl.

Here are the details of the signup. There are a number of you who will not be by the computer on Friday night so we have decided to leave up the signup page for 24 hours. (Hey overseas peeps! See, I got you covered!) I want to remind anyone outside of the US that you will have to pay additional shipping charges. The prices of $190, $110 and $40 do not include international shipping. If you get into the club I will bill you for that afterwards. It’s about $21 more for Canada and $33.00 more for all other countries.

Here is the Round II signup page! Bookmark that. Once it’s time, you will enter your name, email address and then you will check a box for which membership slot you want. Please only check one box. ( 6 month, 3 month or 1 month) There will also be a checkbox for all current Indie Swag Club members. We will be checking this against the list so please do not check that box unless you are truly in the club.

After 24 hours the page will disappear and Adam’s wicked cool program will randomly pick the spots. I will send out an email followed by a Paypal Invoice for the cost of the membership if you are selected. I have decided to up the total number of slots to 40. Theses are the spaces available:

34 (6-month) subscription for $190

8 (3-month) subscription for $110

12 (1-month) subscription for $40 per month

I want to publically thank Adam again for helping me with this. As I mentioned the other day I didn’t want to do this again unless it was fair for everyone. I hope that explains everything. If not, just leave a comment.

I leave you with another Taos picture. I was in a stationery store and the woman working there was kind enough to let me take pictures of the wrapping paper. Tara asked me in the interview that’s up on Create a Connection about what inspires me. This image is a great example of what inspires me.

Scout’s Indie Swag II - Finally!

Allergies are seriously kicking my butt so I hope I make sense in this post. I had about a two hour reprieve this morning when I hung out with Mona and ever since then I can’t stop sneezing. So the news a lot of you have been waiting to hear - Scout’s Indie Swag II is officially on. I’m finalizing the list of my Indie Partners but will share a few of them with you. The two designers on board for this round? Are you ready? Cookie & Shobhana. Do I even need to tell you who else is involved? I mean come on. How cool is that? I’m just glad I asked them both almost six months ago to be a part of this round otherwise I doubt I could have gotten them now! I mean, Cookie has a million of the coolest sock patterns in the world and Shobhana is currently working on her second book. I’m so excited for them to be a part of this. We will also see something from Designs by Romi (have you seen this or this?), Heal My Hands, Adam of Yarn Nerd and KnowKnits. I’m probably going to keep the other few a surprise but I promise, they are very cool. Many of my partners have already designed their colorways and dang are they gorgeous. Cookie’s is straight off of the runway!

The hardest part in deciding whether to do this second round was in figuring out how to make it fair for people to sign up. I am going to still keep the number to 35-40 people. I just can’t do more than that. Also, this time I will be sending the swag out every other month and not every month. This round was just way too hard for me to do. I want it to be fun and not such a stressful thing for me. I have literally had at least 100+ people over the last six months asking me about how to get in to this club. To make it fair I came up with this idea. Adam is currently writing a program for this sign up where everyone who wants to get in can sign up for either a 6, 3, or 1 month spot. I really felt like the prices were fair last time so I am keeping them exactly the same. The number of spots will be similar to last time, however I may open up 5 more spots. If you want to read the original description you can read about it here.

The memberships will be offered as follows which equals 35 full spots:

30 (6-month) subscription for $190

6 (3-month) subscription for $110

12 (1-month) subscription for $40 per month

If you want in, sign up for a spot. Once we close the sign-ups, the program will then randomly pick the people for the club. For current club members? If you want in again, Adam is making the program enter your name in two times so you have a better chance to get in this time. With such a small club, it’s honestly the only way I can think of to make it fair for everyone. I hope everyone can see how much time and thought I’ve put into this. I almost didn’t even do it again because I couldn’t think of how to make it work. After y’all crashed my shop the last time I knew something had to be done differently.

I know. You want to know when you can sign up. Next Friday, March 16th will be the date for the sign up. We will put it up at 6:00 MST. (8:00pm EST/5:00PST) I haven’t decided yet how long I will leave it up but will let you know before then. I don’t think I will leave it up for more than a few hours. Once the program is run and the club is chosen I will email the individuals with a Paypal invoice. And there you have it. The new Indie Swag Club will be selected. The first shipment will be mailed out in the last week of April.

I hope this makes sense? I’m really excited for Round II and I hope you all are too. Spread the word and let people know. Next Friday at 6:00 my time there will be a link here to the signup page. It’s on baby! And now I need to find another box of tissue. Anyone have a good remedy for me? Not even allergy medicine has made a difference this afternoon. I don’t think I’ve been this miserable since I can remember. **I just got an appointment with our NAET Dr. on Saturday morning before we leave for Taos. I see the light! **

Not Quite Flowers…..

But it’s better than flowers to 35 Indie Swag Members!

swag

These should go out tomorrow. I went to the PO today and even Pippi can be witness to the fact that I got there and picked numer 82 and they were only on 32! (we were on the phone) WTH? So I need to go back and get stamps and then they are ready to go. Next month I’m ordering the stamps online. I can’t stand waiting in line at the PO. But hooray! Month four is done! Carole saw it today as I was packaging it up and can attest to the fact that it’s really pretty. For those asking about the next club? I will make an announcement soon about that…..
Now I can tackle my custom orders. I can’t wait to catch up on that list and get all of the Ribby Pulli orders going too. I think I have about five sweaters to dye on my board right now. I’m excited to dive into all of that Louet.

Can someone please send back our warm weather? This weather is getting old. Seriously.

And MORE Snow!

This is what I saw when I woke up this morning. That’s my dye table. Doesn’t look like I’ll be dyeing anytime soon huh? Maybe it’s some cosmic hint for me to take a break for a few days? I think we easily have a foot by now and it’s still snowing!

snow

It’s a good thing I hauled ass over the weekend and finished dyeing all of the Indie Swag and that the post office is on the way to T.’s work. Because guess what? Indie Swag is on its way to you. T. dropped it all off this morning at 7:15am. I can’t believe we pulled it off and got it out so early. If it weren’t for this snowstorm you guys might get your swag before Christmas. (if you celebrate it that is) Maybe you still will. Who knows with this weather. All of the major highways are closed so it doesn’t look very promising. I can’t wait for you all to see it. I love this month’s swag.

We snuck out to to the grocery store before people were on the roads to grab a few things knowing we’d be stuck here all day today and possibly even tomorrow. White Bean Chili will be cooking in the crockpot soon and chocolate peanut butter cookies will be in the oven. If I can’t dye yarn I’ll cook. Hey, maybe I’ll even knit! Yes, Miss Wise-Ass Jessalu. Knitting! Did you not see my scarf I posted the other day? I knit! Shaddup! For anyone who loves to use a crockpot I highly recommend this book. The Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes.

Since I’m stuck here for a while how about you all entertain me? Tell me your most disastrous cooking incident. Write about it here or on your blog. Just let me know where I can read it. Mine? I would have to say it was at my mother-in-laws 15 years ago. I decided to show off and cook my rockin’ lasagne. When it was all cooked and ready to take out of the oven, I proceeded to drop the whole thing on the opened, oven door and the floor. Can you say embarrassed much?

Knitting & Indie Swag Up in Here….

First let’s show you my progress on the scarf. That would be the Norovember scarf. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s December but hell I think I have a good excuse. I feel like the last month has been sucked into the vortex better known as Knitty Gritty. Not complaining, I just got sidetracked in all of the preparation.  I brought the scarf with me to California and knit on the plane and in the airports. I got quite a bit done. I think I’m at about 40″. I still love it and can’t wait to wear it. Click it to see up close.

scarf

Indie Swag. What can I say other than I’m busting my butt to get it done as soon as I can. I just about froze my fingers and toes out there today getting a big chunk of it done. Who loves yah!?!?  I’m really hoping you all just understand that this past month was a little out of the ordinary and threw me for a loop in terms of keeping up with, well, life in general. My plan is to have it out by the end of this next week. Heck, that wouldn’t even be late since I orginally said it would go out the 2nd or 3rd week of each month so I guess I’m still within that time frame. I just really wanted it to you before Christmas but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. To make up for it, I give you a sneak peek. These are only two of the colors though so I promise it will still be a total surprise. See? I told you it was pretty!

swag

In terms of the Shop, I am cranking orders out and sometimes even get them out that same day. I have Carrier Pick-Up so I just throw them out in a box and sometimes even make another run to the PO before 6:00pm. I guess what I’m saying is, “There’s still time to get your holiday swag!”

I now must do about a trillion things before we go to three different holiday parties tonight. That’s out plan anyway. Who knows if we can do it. T has his work party and then two different sets of friends are having parties. Shoot, Hannukah Harry needs to get organized too. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Oh! And to any parents of little kids? If your kids haven’t seen Monster House yet, I would wait until they are around 30 to watch it. Okay, maybe 7 or 8. It’s scary man! Hanukkah Harry brought it last night and it scared the crap out of Supergirl who kept saying, “I am SO NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP TONIGHT!” And true to her word she came and woke us up at 1:30am. *sigh*
