The Prettiest Hedgehog Ever & More DYE-O-RAMA Info

Hedgehog

This was a test skein I dyed yesterday for my girly Noelle. She has helped me so much over the past months with website stuff I wanted to thank her by dyeing her own colorway. This is my first stab at a custom dye-job. She wanted black, grey, white and pink. I absolutely love it. I will make a pair of socks for Supergirl with this one. It was also my first real attempt at mixing colors. I mixed ecru and pink to get that shade of pink. It’s exactly what I wanted and probably my favorite one yet. I had to take a pictue of all of my colorways this morning because I really love them all so much.

A few pieces of information about the swap:

-We will give plenty of notice about when the offical sign up will be. Just keep an eye on one of our blogs and we will give you a 36 & 24 hour notice.
-You will need to register to be a part of the swap. Just leaving your comment in the previous post does not ensure that you will be in the swap. We will need all of your information and that will be your committment to join the swap.
-Beginners will be welcome. We will have two official groups. One will be the WTF am I doing group and the other will be for people who feel pretty confident in their dyeing skillz.
-You may use any dyes as long as they are permanent and lightfast.
-We will do international swaps. We will specifically ask whether you mind having an international pal or not.
-We have had a lot of interest already and we may have a 100 person limit for this first round. We will let you know about this.
-Finally, please do not sign up for this swap if there is even the slightest chance that are going to flake-out on us. We recruited Noelle to help with the organization of this swap and the 4 of us will not be very nice DYE-O-RAMistras if you don’t follow through with your committment. Most of you have probably been a part of a swap before and know that nothing sucks more than having a pal who doesn’t do what they are supposed to. Ya know?

So stay tuned for more details…..

One Down, One To Go

I finished my first Sockapaloooza sock last night. I think it’s one of the prettiest socks I’ve ever seen and I can’t believe it’s not for me. How does that work? For anyone who doesn’t know, this pattern is from Sensational Knitted Socks and it’s the Welt Fantastic pattern. The yarn is from Jessie of a Piece of Vermont. I can’t stop staring at it. And to think I made my first sock just last fall.

sock

I have already started the second one and with my Shadow Shawl dangling in front of me I hope to finish sock #2 quickly.

I’m so excited that DYE-O-RAMA is looking like it’s going to be a hit! I think we might even need to have a cut-off number. We’re working on it. Stay tuned for all of the details. And thank you all for being so enthusiastic about my crazy idea.

And finally, it was in the 80’s here today and was unbelievably beautiful. The kids had school and then played all afternoon with their friends. The Toothless Wonder had so much fun driving around the neighborhood in this with his buddy.

Hummer

Why didn’t we have fun stuff like that when I was a kid? Okay. I’m going to be a good girl and get another hour of knitting in before I pass out.

Tarzhay

I was inspired by these Target placemats.

From left to right - pumpkin orange, fuchsia I muted with silver gray, black cherry, turquoise, chartreuse, salmon. Self striping yarn. 440 yards! These will be socks for ME. I can’t wait to see how they look all striped up! I kind of like this dying thing. Can you tell?

I’m Totally Hooked

Look what I made!! I documented the whole process since a few of you asked me to. Click the picture to see what I did for a mini, self-striping yarn dying tutorial.

SuperBoy

I’m going to Lowe’s today to see how I can make my own board. I want to be able to do up to 6 colors so I want it to be twice the size of this one I borrowed. As you can see, it went a lot smoother this time. There was no mess at all and I even did it inside. I’m such a wild and crazy gal. Thank you again Cookie (Yes, that would be Pomatomus Cookie) for the dyes. All three of these colors came from what you sent me!

Supergirl named the yarn Superboy. He can’t wait for me to make socks with it. The colors are Lemon Yellow, Turquoise & Black Cherry. Now that I get how the warping board works, thanks to Adrian of Hello Yarn, I’m not scared to do my next skein of sock yarn for me. This yarn I used was Lanett yarn by Sandnes and was only 195 yards. My next project is to dye some Fortissima Socka for myself. There is 458 yards so I’ll be prepared for it to take twice as long to wind. It’s okay, I actually liked doing it as strange as that may sound.

If anyone has questions shoot. Obviously I’m just a beginner but I think I have it down pretty well. I can’t wait to start mixing up the dyes. If you’re a mathematical type who likes stripey yarn this is definitely the project for you.

Supergirl Socks To the Rescue!

If you can believe it, it’s actually not sunny right now so the colors aren’t really true to form. They really are a lot more vibrant. But they are done and I’m super happy because they are super cute. Supergirl loves them a super lot. Is that enough super-de-duperness? They fit her perfectly too. Mama-E? I love them. I hope it’s okay that I’m going to give the rest of the yarn to Irishmama who wants to make a pair for her girlie too? I can’t wait to knit with my Scout yarn.

I am now going to cast on for Sockapaloooza! Whoo hoo! Oh wait. I still need a pattern. Why am I having such a hard time with this? I guess I had better go figure that out so I can start them.blank

One more thing. Guess who won another contest? You got it! I couldn’t believe it when I read it on Yarnmaven’s blog. I’m feeling super lucky. Should I go buy a lottery ticket? How cool is her new tattoo? I think it totally rocks. I love it even more since it was a present for her 50th birthday.

Damn!

Did you see the news?

I guess it’s my own fault for putting it into the mix of choices. It’s okay. Jessie will just have to make me some more. I think they will be great Sockapaloooza socks even though I wanted the Pretty Pretty Purple all to myself.

I am going to do a different pattern than the Web Socks if I’m using this yarn. This yarn is self striping so I want something that works really well with stripes. Do I dare make another pair of Jaywalkers? What are some other favorite sock patterns for self-striping yarn? Help a sister out!

My feeds appear to be all wonky in Bloglines again so who knows who will even see this. Thanks to Little Purl of the Orient for showing me this fun Flickr Toy!

Supergirl & STR

I finished my first Supergirl sock with Mama-E’s hand-dyed yarn. I absolutely love it. It also fits her perfectly. I’ve already cast on the second sock and hope to whip it right out so I can start on my next project.

At this point I think most of the recipients of the Sock Club have gotten their packages so I’m not putting this behind a cut. Don’t scroll down any further if you don’t want to see what we got in our first kit.

STR Kit 1

The yarn is called Rainforest Jasper. It’s soooooo pretty. I really think that my T. needs a pair of socks out of this. Even though he said not to knit him anything I think I’m going to. Tough. It will be available to the public in 3 months if you want it.  I also made new banner and button to go with our Sock Club Blog’s new name. We held a contest to name the blog and it was a total coincidence that the name that won was almost identical to the bumper sticker that got sent to us!

Time for a run! Ciao!

The Secret Yarn….

First of all I finished knitting my bag. I’ll post pictures once I have the handles and the lining completed. Allison will have the pattern up for sale this week so you can buy it. The best part about finishing the bag was that I finally got to play with that secret hand-dyed yarn I told you about. I can spill it now because she couldn’t wait any longer to announce it on her own blog. That her, would be Mama-E. She asked me about a month ago if I would test some yarn she had dyed and let her know what I thought. She gave me a few choices and I went with colors I don’t normally pick and she named the colorway Supergirl. Actually she named it Scout at first and that didn’t really fit so she just dyed a new colorway and named that Scout. Isn’t that gorgeous? Keep an eye on her blog as she gets her business underway. She has an amazing eye for color as you can see. Here is my beautiful Supergirl.

Supergirl

And of course Supergirl the yarn, has to be made into socks for the real Supergirl. It’s also a great project for Project Spectrum dontcha think?

socks

I’m really enjoying how the colors are knitting up and Supergirl loves them too. She keeps coming over to see it and says, “Mama? I love the colors!”

So keep an eye out for Mama-E’s C*EYE*BER FIBER.

CEYEBER FIBER

The best part of working in a yarn store?

The few times of the day when it’s actually slow, we knit! I mean how much better does it get than that? It’s not like I get a ton done, but it’s still fun to be able to just grab my sock and knit a row or two when/if I can. Today we were all knitting socks. I think Franzi could win an Olympic medal for how fast she knits. She says it just *looks* faster because of the movement of her hands but we all know better. I swear she can stand there in 5 minutes and make a sock. Can everyone out there send her safe travel vibes as she makes a quick little trip home to Switzerland? We’ll miss you Franzi. Hurry up and come back soon. Okay?

In other news? Holy crap. I had put my Jaywalkers in the washing machine earlier today thinking I’d take them out and let them dry on the back porch in the sun. (Should hand-knit socks not even go into the washer!? Dang. Am I a total moron for even doing that?) I was gone all day and my sweet, dear, T. did the laundry. You know where this is going right? I just asked him if they went into the dryer too. Uh huh. I was scared to see them. After all that work I expected them to be a pile of yarn which would make me cry. But guess what? I can’t believe it but they are totally fine. The color washed out a teeny bit but they fit perfectly and didn’t fall apart. Lucky me. Doh.

Warning!

Do not click the picture below if you have no self control over beautiful sock yarn. Cara? Damn you woman! (Okay, as Margene pointed out I need to take some responsibilty …. but still!)

Blue Moon
I warned you! Don’t get mad at me. However, I caved. How could I pass that up? Who else is in with me? Come on. You know you want to. I did the 4 kits whole year. Bad Scout. Good Scout? Who cares. Happy Scout!
